nice place to stay in the north-eastern part of Greece???

Tomorrow I´m going to hitch-hike from Canakkale in Turkey to Thessaloniki in Greece. It´s a long journey and I thought it should be broken in some nice place on the way, somewhere in the north-eastern part of Greece, on the way between the Turkish border and Thessaloniki? Any recommendations? And how is hitch-hiking in Greece? thanks!
