by jesscml Online Now Apr 12, 2009 at 5:29 AM

Hi, My friends and I will be arriving in Athens in early june. We are planning to spend some days in Santorini and and Mykonos but can't seems to find ferries from Mykonos to Santorini or vice versa.. can anyone help?? We are also thinking if it is better to catch a flight from Santorini to Athens instead of the ferries on our return trip back to Athens airport. Does anyone has some suggestions for us? thanks in advance

You might need to connect through Paros, a main ferry hub in the Cyclades, to go from Mykonos to Santorini if there are no direct trips. As far as flying back to Athens from Santorini, I would recommend that, especially if you have a flight out of Athens soon thereafter since the ferries are often delayed. Have a great trip! I am sure you will love it!

in 2005, I got a fast boat from Mykonos to Santorini. I would think they would have the same service now but I'm not sure.

On April 9 the Hellenic Seaways FlyingCat 4 began service between Crete and Mykonos with stops at Santorini, Ios and paros. Take note of the no-sail dates. http://www.ferries.gr/hfd Check the Aegean Airlines website. Just a few days ago they released another block of discounted domestic tickets, 39 euro each way, all taxes included. http://www.aegeanair.com

Take a plane from Santorini to Athens. I've missed Santorini completely on one trip because of a storm that was unexpected, the boat turned back and in the morning we found ourselves at the starting point. On another trip we wanted to return to Athens on a ferry from Mykonos, no ferry because of a storm, and everybody rushing to get tickets for the plane, no place for everybody. It's much better if you have the tickets in advance. I personally prefer not to try to connect a local flight with a flight home, though it saves the long drive to Athens. I just returned today from another trip to Greece with many unexpected missing connections.

Hi, Leaving Mykonos to last will give you the most choice of ferries back to Piraeus or Rafina, whether you fly/ferry to Santorini is up to you. Ferries in my view put the Greek Islands into context, rather than merely flying to touristy destinations as quickly as possible. This is a standard answer to what is the most touristy route in Greece: Daily ferries on this route: Mykonos > Santorini. 1) Mykonos > Santorini, Regular daily small catamaran about 14:45 direct during April-October with Hellenic Seaways and/or Seajets. hellenicseaways.gr/index.asp... http://www.seajets.gr/index_eng.html Alternatively when the Hellenic Seaways catamaran does not operate on the odd Wednesday then take any ferry like the Seajet around 10:00 to Paros and then a Bluestar ferry to Santorini. 2) Pre-booking of ferries is only necessary in July/August or just before/after a Greek holiday. 3) Advance ferry information varies from 10 months in advance to a few days, depending on the ferry company involved. In July/August the meltemi wind can be strong and these small catamarans may, rarely, be cancelled however there is the big ferry alternative via Paros or Naxos. http://www.gtp.gr/RoutesForm.asp openseas.gr/OPENSEAS/index_e... bluestarferries.com/intro.ht... Daily ferries on this route: Santorini > Mykonos. 1) Santorini > Mykonos, Regular daily small catamaran 11:50 direct during April-October with Hellenic Seaways. hellenicseaways.gr/index.asp... http://www.seajets.gr/index_eng.html Sometimes another small catamaran operates. Alternatively on the odd wednesdays/other days when it does not run change ferry in Paros/Naxos still enables a connection, 06:00-10:00 to Paros, then from Paros > Mykonos. 2) Pre-booking of ferries is only necessary in July/August or just before/after a Greek holiday. 3) Advance ferry information varies from 10 months in advance to a few days, depending on the ferry company involved.
