      Easter in Provence

      Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur 2 hours ago

      Hello
I'm spending Easter in Provence (based in Marsellie and doing day trips out) and would like some ideas on what to do in Provence over Easter. I'm alone so would like some nice things to do to keep me company! I like markets, festivals or just easter events.
I would like to visit Aix En Provence, Arles, Lyon, Avignon etc but don't know which days would be best to see these towns. Do things close over the weekend?
      I'm here for 5 days.
Or any other towns anyone would recommend to see?
I can't drive around but am more then happy with public transport. Any help would be great!!

I am flying into Nice airport with my partner for a one week holiday booked to stay at Hotel Sainte Valerie in Juan Les Pins. Could anyone advise on how best to travel ie bus or train & costs involved. We plan to travel at the end of September so unsure if that affects regularity of services due to being out of season. Thank you in advance.

    • Train from Arles to Marseilles Vitrolle Station

      Arles Mar 22, 2014 at 10:51 AM

Our river cruise ends in Arles and we have a flight booked that day (a Thursday) from Marseilles to Paris. Can we take a taxi from the cruise port to the train station and buy the train tickets when we get there? Is there a manned ticket window or just machines for tickets? Our flight doesn't leave until 1:40 pm and by looking at the train schedule it looks like there are a few morning trains that travel that route.

    • How to divide up 6 days in Nice/Aix-en-Provence--Suggestions Please?

      Nice Apr 7, 2014 at 3:46 PM

      Hello,

My husband, 2 sons (17 and 12), and I will be arriving into Nice from the United States at around 11:30 am near the end of July and staying in the French Riviera and Aix en Provence for 6 days before we head to the Italian Riviera. We would like suggestions on how to divide up the trip.

We would like to drive to Aix (inland route) and stop at some of the little towns along the way. We hear it is a beautiful drive, especially this time of year. On the way back to Nice, we also want to hit some of the smaller towns like Cassis. Of course, we will want to visit Antibes, Cannes, St. Tropez, St. Paul de Vence, Menton, Monaco, etc. We have been told that it is not smart to try to drive East on the Coast of Nice at this time of year due to traffic, so we were planning to take trains.

We think we will be too tired to drive when we arrive the first night. We had originally been planning to stay the first night in Nice, then drive to Aix for 2 nights, then back to Nice as our home base for 3 more nights.

Our second plan was to spend the first night in Antibes, the next 2 nights in Aix, and the remaining 3 nights in Nice.

Now that I started looking into accommodations, I remember the reason we usually rent apartments, so I am thinking maybe we should stay in Nice for 3 nights and then Aix for 3 nights or perhaps Nice for 4 nights and then Aix for 2 nights.

Because I have never been to any of these places, I was hoping that someone might have suggestions.

We like eating, shopping (unique items--not T-shirts and not brand name items), little towns, people watching, tourist attractions, art (but not so much museums), and eating (higher end). (Of course, if anyone has any "can't miss" experiences, we welcome those as well. I am just beginning my research.) We will likely go to the beach once or twice for an hour or two, but it is definitely not the focus of our trip.

Any recommendations on how to best divide up our time given your knowledge of the area--traffic, transportation, our interests, time of year, etc.?

      Thank you!!!

      Is Marseille worth the visit?

      Marseille Mar 18, 2014 at 5:45 PM

I am planning an itineraryin France, and I found out a very cheap train that goes from the train station at Disneyland to: Marseille, Avignon or Montepllier (10euros each) I think it is a good way to get closer to Spain for a few euros, so I am considering to spend a day in Marseille. Is it worth the visit? I would also like to see Cracassonne since I will be in the south of France. Any other place you suggest?

by littlegretchin Online Now Aug 26, 2013 at 7:36 PM

We stay in Nice and would like to visit Grasse.
Afterwards we plan to go to Avignon.
      i can't decide if I should take train all the way : Nice-Grasse-Cannes -Avignon(TGV)
Or tale the bus :Nice-Grasse-Cannes, then TGV to Avignon.

The issues is that we will travel with two big luggage and i cannot find any information on storage lockers at Grasses Train station or Bus station.

The other option is going to back to Nice (where we store the luggage) and then travel to Avignon. It just seems a bit detour.

Can anybody provide me with some suggestions?

      Thank you.

Hi, I will be attending a summer course at Prodarom in Grasse this summer. My question is regarding accommodation - suggestions for nice hotels or possibly apartment rental and whether it is better to stay close to the GIP or in the centre and go by bus or foot? I have not been to Grasse so am unfamiliar with the distances between places. I will not have a car but like to walk :) Any advise is much appreciated! Best regards, Sylvia

Help! Any alternatives to MOLINARD perfume workshop?

by bettyo70 Online Now Mar 24, 2012 at 9:29 AM

      Hi Everybody,

Although I do love perfume and scents, I've heard that the GRASSE tours and workshops (Molinard, etc) are kind of tourist traps, and that the scents are not to everyone's taste.

While I love the idea of the create-your-own scent workshop, I was wondering if we should just skip GRASSE altogether... and if there are places in other parts of the French Riviera that offer such workshops... but are not so heavily marketed.

If anyone has done the MOLINARD create-your-own-scent workshop and can comment on it, please post back here! And if you know of any alternatives, I'd love to hear about that too. We'll be based in Cannes/Juan-les-Pins in May. THANKS!

I am traveling with two 17 year old girls and another mother this July. We are staying in Cannes and will take the bus to Grasse. Since we think we want to spend the better part of the day there, I would like the names of some reasonably priced restaurant in the pedestrian area. Have any good recommendations? Also if anybody know what number bus we want to take to Grasse form Cannes, that would eliminate any angst in finding that info once we are in France.
