Grand canyon in christmas holidays

by MissingLosAngeles Online Now Dec 18, 2006 at 6:27 PM

Hello,

I am driving to GC during the holidays and just figured out it is snowing there. But I dont know how much snow will be accumulated on the roads.
My question is, do I need an 4WD or snow chains for this trip?

Thanks.

    According to
    www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/hours.htm
the South Rim of the Canyon, including its facilities, are open every day, including Christmas. The North Rim closes every year from about mid-October to May 15th.
Here's the URL to check road conditions on Arizona highways
    www.az511.com/hcrsweb/hcrsweb.jsp

In general, the roads into the Canyon are well-plowed, and closures are quite rare (but POSSIBLE). If conditions on any highway in Arizona get to the point where chains would be needed, they'd probably close the road.

Thanks guys ! The Road conditon link is very useful.

I am going to take my regular sedan, unless it snows heavily during this/next week. In that case i will probably have to stay at home :-)
