We're going to be in Las Vegas in July and are going to take a side trip to the Grand Canyon. Were thinking of spending one night at the South Rim and then driving to the North Rim for the second night. When I looked online, the national park lodge is booked. Are there other places to stay? Any towns nearby? Thanks in advance- Jennifer.
returned from the GC a few weeks ago. what people said on other travel forums, was to keep calling, since there are cancellations all of the time. At the south rim, the closest town in Tuysan (sp?), where there are loads of hotels. I'm not sure about north rim....but I"m sure other VTers will come to your rescue. I keep thinking St. George, UT, but not think that's right. Have fun. The GC really is amazing!

The North Rim is more isolated than the South Rim, with FAR fewer facilities. This can be a plus, but you've also seen the minus. Here's some choices: www.kaibab.org/gc/serv/gc_serv.htm#north_other Note that even the closest is still a ways away.
