Planning to camp at the Havasupai Indian tribe campgrounds, taking the helicopter down, to save our hiking experience for the waterfalls once down there. Wondering about the actual camping experience down there. Some reports say no campfires, do we pack a small grill? How far to campsites from where helicopter lands. We do have reservations but that was hard getting someone to answer the phone, and they weren't overly helpful, must have been a bad day.Any other advise would be helpful. Thanks looking forward to a great trip!
Hi there - The Havasupai appear to be doing some work on their website (it's off-season in Supai) but you can find some distances here: havasupaitribe.com/reservati... Note that it's 2 miles from village to campground. And no - no firewood or fires are allowed but you can bring charcoal/grill top or a gas grill. Also note that no alcohol is allowed on the reservation, and they discourage washing dishes or yourself in the river with soap. Until they get the website propagated with more info, you might find this helpful: campingshowerworld.wordpress... I guess I'm not surprised that they weren't particularly helpful as that has been an experience of some others I know who have made the trek. A good friend of ours who hiked in to camp a couple of years ago did not have great things to say about the grounds: dirty and lots of trash about - although maybe that has changed. The falls, however, are always reported to be beautiful and that's why you go, right?

Just in case you aren't totally aware, the reservation/town of Supai is not really part of Grand Canyon National Park and is under tribal jurisdiction versus the NPS. That's why you won't find much for info under the Grand Canyon National Park website.
