Hi,: ) I am planning a day trip to Granda from Malaga later this month. I will be alone on this trip. I can probably arrange to arrive at between 9 am and 10 am and stay until about 7 pm. I wondered if it is realistic to try to see the famous Alhambra palace in this time...and if so how this can be achieved. I can add that I am not very keen on big touristic attractions or spending a lot of time inside preferring to be out in the open and to meet people in the street and take in the atmosphere of a place. In context I have visited the Tower of London here in London with guests from overseas but would not send a visitor there alone for the day. Thanks for reading this and any responses... Baltic
I am just back from London where I visited the Tower. Two years ago I went to the Alhambra and now I can say that I would skip Tower but never Alhambra. When you arrive from Málaga you should have bought your ticket in advance with your time to enter the Nazrides Palace.

'I can probably arrange to arrive at between 9 am and 10 am and stay until about 7 pm.' - I shall presume you know how to go from Malaga. 'I wondered if it is realistic to try to see the famous Alhambra palace'- I suggest you have to be very much in love with the complex and/or subjects associated to spend more than four hours there. 'how this can be achieved' - Ensure you buy your ticket in advance to avoid possible disappointment - tripadvisor.com/Travel-g1874... With any time left, walk down to the city and/or to the Albaicin and walk around.

Difficult one this - I far preferred the one in Malaga, as I felt the Granada Alhambra was over-restored and over-touristy. However, it is the one place that everyone goes to. You need to buy your tickets online beforehand. With a limited amount of time, you will need to plan on how you are going to get there from wherever your transport drops you, etc.

Alhambra has beautiful gardens inside. Don't miss that place!

Tower of London is a big attraction has it served various functions over it's VERY long (1000 year!) history. A place for incarceration & so many executions, including royal queens!! But architecturally it is nothing special - just a fort really! But Alhambra (especially Nasrid Palace) has gorgeous Islamic Moorish design. I was stunned by it's beauty & majesty. Nothing like it in fact! Due to it's fragility, visitor numbers are restricted, so to avoid disappointment you must book your exact visiting slot in advance, online. Do not bank on winging it impromptu!

Thanks to everyone for the useful information, if the price is OK I will try to visit the Alhambra.

You don't say if you have a car. If you take the bus, allow for time from getting from the bus station(a ways away from the old town) to the old town below the Alhambra. The train station is much closer. Then there is a shuttle bus from the base to the entrance. There are reservation times to get into the Nasrid Palace. The Alhambra has several sections, in addition to the Nasrid Palace. To appreciate the Palace you need to allocate several hours, just to go through and appreciate the place. The Generalife Gardens are very enjoyable. Karl

thanks Karl. I was planning to take the bus but now I wil check the option to go by train also...the tickets for Nasri Palace are sold out so I have bought a ticket for the afternoon session to see the Gardens and other areas.

I feel that I am of round about the same sort but missing Alhambra would be a big mistake imo.. To enjoy that fully, firstly pre-book your visit I should suggest. Then at-least read a bit about the site (though I hate that at most of the occasions but Alhambra is an exception imo) before investing in it, although a complete blank attempt would not be that useless either..
