Sorry I can't delete the question , but I think I found something charming on a backpackers site. Thanks everybody who wanted to help/ I let you know later if I made a good choice. frank.

There are a number of old mudejar buildings in the Albaicin which have been refurbished spainatheart.co.uk/country_g... I stayed at the Santa Ines in October 1996 - but this may be slightly outside your price range. Have a good time Mark

Hostal Ninfa in the Realejo near Principe Plaza is one of those gorgeous gems you wish you knew about before you booked someowhere else. About 55 Euro
