      Aberfoyle Dec 19, 2014 at 4:43 AM

Hello, Thanks everyone for previous assistance. Still having trouble deciding where would be the best place for easy walking - not hiking, as we have to rely on public transport. Have 6 days to experience the countryside in June 2015 and looked at Aberfoyle, Callander or Balloch (transport maybe more accessible) Also thought maybe spend 4 days walking and then travel to Isle of Mull and experience a little of island life for 2 days instead of 6 days in one place. Of course 1 day would be taken up travelling. Don't know the area as we are from Australia. Appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thank you

Also If tickets allow the entrance to Paulton's Park and if is it good for 3 years old children, and any other advice you can give me. We'll be using a rental car. Is there any other good attraction near there?

We are flying from Madrid departure 0820hrs and arriving Heathrow 0950hrs thro American but operated by Iberia. We are leaving Heathrow at 1120hrs and arriving O'Hare 1345hrs thro American but operated by BA. We have 1hr and 30mins between flights - is this enough time? Both flights arrive and depart from T5. If time is tight can we ask a member of staff for assistance in order to connect with flights ? Does anyone know the procedure for a missed flight connection? We booked the flights thro American Airlines. I assume we just both clear security and not immigration. We are both UK citizens.

      Rail and rental car question

      London Dec 19, 2014 at 2:40 PM

I want to travel from London to Truro by train and rent a car from Enterprise on March 17th. I want to be picked up at the train station and dropped off at the airport. The Enterprise man's email does not give me a confirmation number - he seems to want me to buy a ticket on the train first. The National Rail Enquiries - Journey Planner will only give me train times up to 2015 March 12th. But www.thetrainline.com/‎

is perfectly willing to sell me a ticket for the 17th. How can I get a car reservation confirmation without a train time (is there a website I can go to?), and should I go ahead and buy a ticket through 'thetrainline' people or wait a week and get one from National Rail?

United Kingdom Dec 7, 2014 at 4:40 PM

I have a convention excuse to visit London in April 2015, and since Husband and I have never been off North America we're looking into making a trip of it. I tried to build-my-own tour, but I couldn't get it under $10,000 USD for both of us for 14 days with airfare. H suggests looking into tours, but we can't find many that include Cardiff. It seems the biggest price-busters are car rental for the London-to-Salisbury/Bath-to-Cardiff-to-Edinburgh transportation ($420 USD total), London and Edinburgh hotels (£105 and £125 respectively, breakfast included), and estimated food budgets (£60 per person a day in London and Edinburgh, £50 in Salisbury/Bath and Cardiff, and €75 in Dublin). Am I grossly overestimating food costs in those locals for two meals (every hotel chosen has breakfast included)? Any suggestions for reasonable hotels in London and Edinburgh that are cheaper, or transportation options that will suit our needs and be more affordable than a car rental? Or suggestions of tour companies we should be looking at? Thanks!

    • Travelling to London August 2015. Cost of living ??

      London Dec 11, 2014 at 2:14 PM

      Hello everyone, how are you?

I'm travelling to London for a 7 days holiday, next summer (August) with a friend. And as I lived there from 1996 to 2007, I know how expensive London can be for a tourist, compared to any other city in Europe (unless, of course, you from Norway or Japan). So this time I'll go as a tourist, as there are things I never did or visited when I lived there.

Since it's been 7 years I left London (by the way I miss London so much), I don't actually know what is the cost of living in London for a budget tourist at this moment in time. I've already booked the flight, accommodation and London Pass, for London attractions + Travelcard which costed me a total of €700 (about £560) all inclusive.

Having done that (flight, accommodation, pass and travel card), what remains is food, drink and entertainment. So I was thinking on a (low) budget of £60/£80 (€76/€100) per day (that's £420(€530) for 7 days). What do you think? Can we live on or spend our holiday with this budget for a week? We obviously won't be spending £60/£80 a day, everyday. Surely we'll go clubbing a couple of times, some evenings we'll go to a pub or a bar with music and stuff like that, and then we'll get some souvenirs for friends and family back home!

Also we'd like to go to see Stonehenge (if we can squeeze some time in), on a day trip. What is the fastest way to get there and how much do you does it costs?

      Thank you in advance friends!

      Take care !!!

      any ideas?

      Aberdeen May 21, 2008 at 11:32 AM

I may have an overnight trip to Aberdeen next weekend. I've stayed in 4 hotels there over the last 5-6 years (Hilton, Holiday Inn Express, Premier Inn & Patio), and wouldn't rush back to any of them. Probably fine if you've just had 3 weeks on an oil rig, but thats as far as it goes.

I've looked at a few websites, and can't find anything appealing except maybe the Marriott in Dyce. Any ideas anyone?

I hate "traditional" Scottish places, I'm OK with chains (budget or not) and B&Bs. Like boutique places too.

So long as its clean, quiet, welcoming and non smoking, I'm flexible on price (on my last trip to the NE I paid £27 bed & breakfast in the local British Legion Club and it was fine; in Brussels last week I paid a good bit more for Le Meridien).

Myself and a couple of friends are thinking of working for the summer in Britain. There're a few cities we are considering going to and to help us narrow our (very long) list I was just wondering if anyone would like to offer some input as to whether or not Liverpool would be a good choice for the summer.
We'd be looking for somewhere where
      - Job availibility won't be a problem
      - A decent nightlife for 20 year olds
      - Cheap cost of living, or at least, not expensive
      - There's a nice amount of touristy things to do.

      Really, REALLY appreciate feedback!

I have a ton of questions. I am currently living and working in Calgary, Alberta Canada, but I've always wanted to live overseas. What is a decent Salary in Euros there? Where do people typically live, and is it expensive to live in Aberdeen relative to other cities (if you can compare to Cdn cities that would be great, but don't worry about it if you aren't sure).

I am an oil and gas accountant with 3 yrs experience, what is the job market like there, and do I need to have an offer of employment before I move. How difficult is it to get a work permit/visa?

Is there anything else that you think I should know before I start preparing to do this?

      1. where, and
      2. how I can search for accommodation around.

I'd like to rent a one bedroom apartment, hopefully something below 300 or even 250 pounds per month.

Alternatively, To be honest, I wouldn't mind staying in a multiple bedroom apartment as well, as long as I can get a private room for myself. If this is the case, what sort of monthly rental can I expect?

      Basically my criteria would be
      1. low cost
      2. safe
      3. near to Dyce

      Please advice yea!

      Thanks a lot everyone!

    • Best Viewpoints in Aberdeen Day & Night?

      Aberdeen Feb 26, 2006 at 9:01 AM

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best viewpoints in Aberdeen, both day and night. I've been to the Tory Battery, it's one of my favourite spots, but was curious about other places. I noticed there was a hill above the airport, is there a view from there? Any other ideas?

      thanks for the suggestions
