1. I intend to visit Gothenburg during weekend 5th/6th December to visit the Christmas markets. I'd appreciate if anybody can please recommend a nice but affordable downtown hotel. I'd like to have a little change from100 per night if possible but if the recommendation is strong enough, I'm willing to stretch this limit. 2. If anybody can give me details of which is the best market to visit (if there are more than one) and what times the markets open and close. Thanks in anticipation of some replies

Well, I've already given you accommodation tip and in fact, that hotel is owned by the same place as hosts the main Christmas market - the Liseberg Amusement Park. Look here for inspiration: It is open 13.00 or 15.00 to 22.00 depending on which day you go. Always nice illuminations in the park landscape that is Liseberg. Another nice place around Christmas is Kronhusbodarna, the oldest part of the city with a historical museum and handicraft workshops, old general store etc. Around Christmas you can find army peasoup and mulled wine in the yard.
