Hi there, My husband and I are planning to visit Goreme in December this year. We are thinking to stay for 4-5 days but haven't booked anything yet. We are very keen to hike there but I assume we would need to hire a guide or join a group tour considering the time of year. Maybe somebody traveled there in winter time and can recommend activities or a tour operator. It would be great if you let me know about your experience visiting Cappadocia in winter. We also searching for accommodation - something simple but warm. Big thank you.

Hi everyone, We are going from Goreme to Pamukkale in two days. There are 4 bus companies here to choose. Has anyone had a bad experience with any of them? Their prices are the sane, my concern is with the level of comfort. Any last minute input? Thanks!
Hi, travelling with 2 kids this March and will be needing to bus it from Pamukkale to Goreme. We need an overnight stop on the way but I am not all that keen on Konya (accomodation long way from bus terminal, big city etc). Hi all, is someone able to tell me my options for traveling from Cappadocia (most conveniently Goreme) to Olympos? Either a whole day of traveling or by overnight bus? I am hoping I don't have to change in Antalya as I've spent time there before and was hoping to bypass on this trip. Also if you have any idea of the price, that would be a great help.
We are considering to rent a car and pick up at Kayseri airport at about 20:00. Then, we will drive to Goreme where our hotel is located. I understand that it will become dark at that time. Is it safe and easy for us to find the route to Goreme? Any advice and comment is most welcomed.
I wish to rent a car (without driver) for 2 days in Goreme. Can any VT members recommend to me a reliable and cheap car rental company? Thanks.

I have just finalized all the major bookings for our first trip to Turkey in late Sept/early Oct for 2 weeks. So far, I have planned everything as a 'do-it-yourself' mainly because on the few occasions that I have used a tour group, I feel rushed...I prefer to linger and read even if it means I don't get to see everything. The private guides listed online are pretty expensive for the two of us! So my husband and I have two full days (3 nights) in Cappadocia and I have booked accommodation in Goreme. I have read up a lot and have a pretty good idea of what there is to see both on the main tourist trail and a bit further ...with only two days and being our first visit, we will probably be mainly on the tourist trail. We do plan to rent a car for two days, the other option being day tours which I would like to avoid so I don't feel rushed.. Is it 'doable' to rent a car and do it yourself ( reading a lot of history/geology before and during)--probably one day in and around the Goreme area including Uchisar, Avanos, and probably Derinkuyu and then Guzelyart/Ihlara Valley the 2nd day upto the Agzikarahan Caravansary? Do most people opt for a tour group or private guide? Can you get private guides locally for specific areas e.g the Open Air Museum on the spot and what does that cost?
We're planning a trip to Turkey in September. The last leg involves getting from Goreme to Istanbul. Does anyone know what time the dolmus and/or bus from Goreme to Nevsehir starts service in the morning. Also, we plan to fly from Goreme to Istanbul and assume it's better to fly from Nevsehir as it's closer to Goreme rather than from Kayseri. Does anyone have any suggestions? Appreciate any help as it's difficult to research buses on the internet. Thanks!

Hi there, I am planning a trip to Cappadocia and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a good bus connection between Goreme to Sivas. Also, we would like to visit the thermal (fish) baths in Sivas/Kangal. Has anyone been there and could give us some good advice on where to go and stay? Many thanks. Inge
I intend to spend 3 days at Goreme from my family holiday at Icmeler near Marmaris. What is the best/cheapest way to get there. Time is not important, I am on holiday!
Which town is better for a couple of nights? I am visiting Cappadocia with a friend, and we are looking for the best base to explore the ruins, do a hike, and take a hot air balloon ride. Thanks!
Hi fellow travellers, My husband and I are plannning to visit cappadoccia in early May for 2 full days. We are on budget so I need some advice on the most affordable way to visit the best bit of cappadoccia. I am contemplating either to take 2 full days tour (blue & red) or hire a car. If I decided on tours: Is it possible to arrive before the tour start (930 am) if we take bus from Istanbul? I got some conflicting info re hours taken on bus journey, ranging from 10-12 hrs. What bus should I take to arrive at Goreme latest by around 830ish? Is 50YTL ok for each tour per person? So far, we shy away from joining tour coz we would like the flexibilty of spending time on what we like most. However, due to limited time & information as well as tight budget, we might consider this option. On car hire: Can any of you recommend good, trusted & affordable car hire company? Should we book in advance or on the spot? How much is car hire for a day? Can someone suggested good driving itinerary coz I can;t find cappa's road map so I don't know what to expect with regards to distance in between the places of interest. I am not doing the balloon thing. Is driving in Goreme safe? How far is the Goreme open air museum from goreme town? is it walkable? Sorry for long entry but thanks for your help. Ara, Glasgow
Could someone explain me: 1) what are the transportation options (bus, dolmus, etc.) from Goreme (or any nearby city) to Kayseri? 2) what are the prices and frequencies? 3) Is it easy to get a dolmus or taxi from Kayseri city center to Kayseri airport ? I will arrive in Goreme by bus and leave from Kayseri airport and I am trying to decide if I should get a rental car at Kayseri airport. It seems really difficult to find out about transportation costs. I thank you in advance. Brazilianerin
Is there a daily bus from Goreme to Istanbul? I have a late night flight from Istanbul and I'd like to travel by day and in the evening to get to the airport. Coming early in the morning in Istanbul is quite complicated because I'd have to wait the whole day and half night for a plane. So I'd prefer travelling during day. Is there such a line? Thanks.
Hi there!! Anyone can help us in the following question, please? 1)I heard that many of the bus from Safranbolu will not stop at Goreme but Nevsehir. Which bus company will actually take us to Goreme directly and How long does it take? Any night bus? 2)Any suggestion of local tour to visit cappadocia and Balloon ride? Do I have to have these two function seperate in two days? And price? 3) Any tour to Mt Nermrut (Nemrut Dagi)? Which campany is the best? What is the difference for 3D2N tour and 2D1N tour? 4)When I come back from Mt Nermrut, can I travel directly to Pamukkale? How long does it take from Mt Nermrut to Pamukkale? Or, I need to back to Goreme and stay for an additional night (any expect travel time)? I am very worry about my plan and hope you may give us some help. Thanks in advance.

hey everybody, ill be coming to the cappadocia area next spring sometime to write about the underground cities. I'm wondering if someone can give me some tips. How long would it take for me to see all (or at least most) of the cities in the cappadocia area? Would it make sense to have a home base in the goreme and travel around to each village? or would it be economical to move from village to village? i would be traveling on the absolute lowest budget, so im wondering how much a city tour would cost, how much a hot air balloon ride would cost, what would be the cheapest housing, how much is transportation? apologies for peppering you with these questions... i have to submit a budget for all of this stuff. I'd love to hear anyone's favorite underground cities or spaces or any tips at all. Thank you so much! kc
Me & Jonathan were innocently having a couple of Efes at Fatboys in Goreme when Jonathan got all excited because someone wearing a VT t-shirt walked passed! We got so excited we forgot to actually say anything and VT-tee had gone before we could blink. So come on - own up! Who are you?! ;o)
