Is Coolangatta a good place to spend four nights in the Gold Coast? We would be spending much of our time in and around Surfers Paradise. How far is it from Coolangatta to Surfers Paradise? How reliable is public transportation? Would we be better off staying in Surfers Paradise?
I agree with Craic that you should have a look on Wotif.com. I think that you should stay close to Surfers than Coolangatta. There are buses but there is a lot of traffic and you don't need to be that far away. I prefer Broadbeach and Main Beach to Surfers Paradise. Looking at wotif there's plenty there within your price range.

location for your stay depends on what you want...the beaches along the Gold Coast lose the sun quite early because of the high-rise apartments, and Surfers itself is better for partying out than relaxing. Coolangatta is a bit more settled and less touristy and the beach gets all day sun. There are regular buses up and down the coast - see translink.com.au/resources/t...

personally I would stay in Surfers and then take a bus and travel down to Coolangatta for a look. This would allow to see, even if quickly, the Entire Gold Coast strip.

Agree with the others. If your main intention is to be around the Surfers Paradise area, stay somewhere closer. You don't have to stay in Surfers Paradise, but you could stay closer like in Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, Mermaid Beach, Main Beach, etc. Buses are generally alright. We have never had any issues going to theme parks, major shopping centres, etc.
