to whom it may concern. i am due to go on a cruise holiday next year2011>.one of the ports we will call at is giberalter.can you please tell me what i am allowed to bring from there ie cicgars and ciggerettes.we are cruiseing around the med.thank you.
Gibraltar is not in the EU so officially the rules are very strict about what you can take out. But how or even if these rules are enforced for cruise passengers I don't know. (Some friends of mine are on their way to Gibraltar by car right now and they don't risk taking more than the allowance in their car as the Spanish customs officials are searching every vehicle diligently when it leaves Gib) Found a possibly useful website with details gibraltar.visahq.com/customs...

I think you may mean what can you bring back to the UK from Gibraltar? The UK allowances for cigarettes/alcohol brought back from non-EU countries are given here; hmrc.gov.uk/customs/arriving... However, Gibraltar is in in the EU (albeit as a special member state) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specia... the outside-EU allowances apply (for the UK).

As said above Gibraltar is in the EU but not in the VAT zone, so your allowance to enter the UK is 200 ciggarettes. In Gibraltar you are allowed to have in your possesion 2000 that is ten cartons. Anything over that and you could end up in trouble ! A shop keeper by law can only sell you 1000 ciggarettes at a time.
