Too crowded in early July?

by karenhill Online Now Jun 13, 2004 at 2:02 PM

Thinking of visiting in early July; first time since childhood for me, first time ever for my husband and 11-year-old daughter. Too crowded, or the best time to be there?

The battle of Gettysburg occurred during the first few days of July. There are a lot of tourists at this time, and re-enactments. If you don't have reservations yet, I suggest you make them quickly, as the hotels will fill up fast. It can be very hot in July in Gettysburg - be sure to wear a hat and have something cold to drink when visiting the park.

Yes, the early part of July is pretty crowded but it dies down considerably after the 4th. Anytime during the summer will be more crowded as it is the tourist season. However, if you come during the off season, many special programs are not offered. Have fun!
