Inexpensive hotel or short term apartment

Hello, I will be moving to Genova soon, and am looking for an inexpensive hotel, pensione or apartment to stay at for a week or two before I find an apartment. Does anyone have recommendations for where I should stay? Also, what neighborhoods are are safe, inexpensive and close to the city center? Thanks! Emily
