Hello! Arriving in Geneva June 9th - 12th. Have limited budget but wanted to see as much of the place as I can. On-line Tours seem expensive, but claim to be cheaper than actual fares when booked in person. Is there a sort of 'do it your self tour guide' system of boat, bus and train ride that I can do on my own - or is it better to just bite the bullet and go with a tour group? If so, which one tends to have great value and reviews? Maybe there is a English tourist guide book at the airport that lists the must dos? What's the weather expected to be like? ALSO - Is general food and clothing there very expensive? I intend to sight see with my back pack-so plan on travelling with a lot of fruits and nuts to avoid the temptation of going outside my food budget! Should I get a weekend travel pass and if so, is it good for all of Geneva or only for particular zones and would it work for boats, trains and buses? How much would it cost? Where are your market-day locations in Geneva? I'd definitely like to see that! Maybe I can get a few souvenirs there? Where otherwise would you recommend? Where is the best place to change US to swiss franc currency - Airport, train station, bank, etc? One last thing - to aid in packing lightly, I know I will need to buy a business suit (this will be my personal souvenir gift to me!!). Any sales going on near town that you can refer me to? This is my first trip to Switzerland and hope to make it really meaningful so would appreciate any advice and recommendations. THANKS!!
I plan to go to Geneva for a day, taking TGV train from Lyon. Where should i go from the train station? Is there a tourist office that i can ask? do you have a hop on hop off bus so i can see the city? From research, i know the must see is the lake, how do i go there? is it worth taking the lake cruise? Thanks in advance for your help. I am traveling alone so i have to know exactly where to go.

My husband and I will be traveling from Paris to Milan via train in mid September. We plan to stop off in Geneve for one night. I am trying to plan my honeymoon, but need some guidance. We are considering Italy and Switzerland or just Italy depending on the itinerary. Right now, Geneva, Switzerland is the cheapest to fly into. I would love to see Geneva, get a chance to see one of the National Parks nearby, and head to Italy where Rome is a must, and other cities would be incorporated as possible (Pompeii and Venice are at the top of the list but open to suggestions). We are looking at 2 weeks time. We love to travel, eat, hike and be outdoors so seeing the cities plus a national park would be great. Suggestions!? I'd prefer not to rent a car, so transportation and cost must be considered.
We are going to Geneva for a few days in January and would like to stay in a village or town in a hotel or guest house. we are not skiing but more likely to walk and enjoy scenery.
