Christmas in Bavaria

by azz8206 Online Now Aug 11, 2011 at 4:20 AM

Hello all,
I will be in Garmisch from the 27-29th of December. My questions are 1. Do I need a car in Garmisch? 2. Will restaurants and bars be open during this time? Will the cable car to the top of Zugspitze be open?
Thanks.

    1) Depends on what you want to see and where you want to go. I would venture say that you won't need a car.

    2) Resaurants and bars will be open.

Cable car to Mount Zugspitze will be open - weather permitting.
    Please check this site:
    zugspitze.de/en/winter/berg/...
if the lifts are open. You need to take Eibsee-Seilbahn OR Zanhradbahn AND Gletscherbahn to go to the summit. Zahnradbahn alone will "only" take you to the glacier.

Partnachklamm (http://www.partnachklamm-info.de/) could very well be closed, though.

    Hi,

    1. Absolutely not! I live in Garmisch and don't have a car. If you can't walk or bike to your destination, you can use the bus or train.

    2. Naturally. There should be skiing at the Zugspitze, and everything will be open.
