I'm traveling to gangtok in may wth family.will my kids b able to play in snow at tht time.if so please suggest the place.thank u in advanve.
I am new to VT and found it quite helpful for traveller's guide. My maiden trip with my wife to N-E of india is coming up in feb 1st week. I am a lot excited and a bit anxious too about it. Based on my info here and there, I have made the following iteneirary. Can somebody please review/suggest upon it.
31st Jan - Saturday:
We arrive at bagdogra by 4 PM. Considering that Pelling/ Gangtok both will take atleast 5 hrs to reach, I would like to spend that day at bagdogra and relax so that next day we can start early.
1st Feb - Sunday:
Start very early to reach Pelling by around 11pm. We would like to spend atleast 2 days in Pelling as we hear that the place is quite beautiful and enjoy mountain views.
2nd Feb - Monday:
Pelling - local sightseeing, basically staying put in Pelling and not travelling much. If need be, do local sight seeing.
We have booked Elgin Pandim as I read a lot of good reviews about the hotel.
3rd Feb - Tuesday:
Start to Gangtok after lunch and I think it takes about 4 hrs to reach here. Apply for permits to North sikkim and spend rest of the day in Gangtok.
4th Feb - Wednesday, 5th Feb - Thursday, 6th Feb - Friday, 7th Feb - Saturday:
Visit North Sikkim to cover Lachen, Lachung, Yumthang, Gurdongmaar Lake(if lucky), and any other places and reach Gangtok by 7th Feb lunch/ early evening time. Can somebody help me to reach out to a good travel company for this. What would be the cost for a couple for 3N/4D trip. I expect decent arrangements interms of hotel - room heaters, geysers , food quality.
In the event of North Sikkim not being accessible, I would like to do Nathula, Tsongmo Lake, Ravangla, Aritar, Katao and some other places that offer variety and nice scenic experiences and hopefully snow too. My wife is expecting snow regions / snow fall of some sort :)
8th Feb - Sunday:
We have flight to bangalore at 12:30 in afternoon, so we start from gangtok at around 5 AM.
I know Feb is not the ideal month to visit but I like not so crowded periods and at the same time I am not too a adventurist, So I want some words of wisdom incase some local persons insist that N.Sikkim is still doable. I have been to Ladakh 2 times and have seen 0 degree temperatures but this is first time with wife, so i want it to be a pleasant and memorable with very little risk/adventure.
Hello Folks, I m planning to visit Sikkim in the last week of February with my wife. We would like to visit monasteries, possibly stay away from the crowded places. We want to sometime alone but with nature. We would like to stay with local families in homely environment. So can you recommend me places that are generally not crowded, offer home stays with local cuisines and that can have small trails in the woods or along the hills. We are planning a trip for 7 days.
Hi I want to visit Gangtok coming this February most probably in Middle or end..So I want to know is it good time to visit there and what would be the condition there roads/snow etc. ?? Also I want few hotel names with contacts near MG Marg(fair rates)...

We are group of 15 travellers visiting Gangtok in 1st week of Oct 14. Upon landing at Bagdogra airport on 2nd Oct 14, we dont want to spend time in travelling to Gangtok and checking in at the hotel in evening.
Can you please advice how far is Nepal border from Bagdogra airport. Quite contraditory information is available in various websites with distance ranging from 25 kms to 527 kms. If Nepal border is quite near (say 25 kms - 50 kms), can you please guide on :
1. What is visa fee for entry into Nepal - we dont intend to spend more than 1-2 hours there
2. Any local market that we can visit on the border
3. Can Visa formalities be done on the border check-post
4. Any other suggestion you feel would be good for us.

We are a group of 14-15 people traveling to Gangtok during 1st week of Oct. Would really appreciate if you can help me clarify some aspects which can help us plan the trip well.
1. Does mid-sized transport vehicles like Tempo Traveller etc ply in this region given tough road conditions ?
2. We are quite keen to visit Tiger Hills during dawn inspite it being bit over-rated. How much would it take to travel from Gangtok to Tiger Hills ?
3. We did check out white water rafting on river Teesta. With winder chipping in during the planned visit month, would this be unduly adventurous ? How far is this place from Gangtok city ?
4. Can we visit Tsangmo lake and Nathu La pass in one go ? Would all the travelers need to carry their passports ? How many hours typically it takes for this visit - approx ? Is getting permit for the pass very challenging ?
Look forward to hear from you.

we - me, wife, 14 yr old son - have planned a trip to kolkata and gangtok-darjeeling this diwali. the schedule is -
reaching Siliguri/New Jalpaiguri on 28th oct. 1.30 pm (we were planning to take a cab to Darjeeling or Gangtok immediately - to reach before evening)
need to be at Siliguri on 5th nov., by afternoon 1pm so, 7 full days (and 8 nights) from 28th evening to 5th morning.
questions i have:
- how long will it take from new jalpaiguri, by road, to darjeeling? to Gangtok? what would be the charges of a car like indica, for this 2 trips (siliguri-gangtok; siliguri-darjeeling)? what would the charges be for darjeeling-gangtok by car?
- is there any other travel/transfer alternate, which will not be too time consuming or energy draining?
- should we drop Darjeeling and do only Gangtok?
- can we do darjeeling for a day? with a night halt?
- what is the best we can cover, in and around gangtok?
- hotel suggestions for places you suggest, if possible.
- transport types and charges for trips.
we are not looking for any trekking, though, something light would be ok. we are not looking for very pricey/costly hotel stays.
hope this information is enough for you to help me.
looking forward to hearing from you.
thank you for your care.
