Hi We are looking at a cruise coming into Galveston. I can't find any transport between the above cities and have read on VT that car rental companies are not keen to lend one-way on this route. Would anyone know if there is anything out there that we don't know about, i.e. bus/coach etc? I do have a relative in Austin but she drove us down to Galveston before and we feel unable to ask a second time! We would be really grateful for any advice. Many thanks
It will be awhile before any ships come into Galveston again after Hurricane Ike. I'm sure the company will be diverting any ships scheduled to dock there.

Some cruise ships will be using Houston in lieu of Galveston until Galveston is back on it's feet.

I would contact the Cruise Line and see what arrangements they have available.

Dear Sevsa and Vanderlust Many thanks for your replies. I had not thought that that the pier may have had damage (doh!). In fact, Houston would be far better for us as we would eventually be using the International airport for flights to Britain. Although I did know that the cruise lines provide transportation, it is often quite expensive and we prefer the freedom to 'do our own thing' anyway. We may also visit our relative in Austin before flying home, which would not fit in with the cruise line timings etc. Anyway, I will be contacting the cruise line tomorrow for an up-dated report on the pier etc., so thank you both very much for all your kind help.
