Travel from Florence to Fussen

by cana_dave Online Now Feb 8, 2007 at 8:32 AM

My family (wife and 2 teens) will be travelling from Florence to Fussen in April. Is it possible to drive there in a reasonable amount of time? How about taking a train? Approximately how long of a trip would it be? We would love to see more of the country and rather not fly. Thanks!!

According to Google Earth it's an 8-hour-drive or a 12-hour-train ride according to www.bahn.de. Alternatively, you could fly to either Munich, Innsbruck (nice approach!) or Augsburg (Augsburg Airways only). By the way: If you are going to rent a car in Florence and leave it in Füssen or maybe Munich, it will cost you a fortune, you know.

disregarding the problem with different return location of rental cars (you will definitely need to check this out though), I would suggest splitting the trip in half and staying somewhere in Northern Italy, for instance Lake Garda, Trento or Meran/Merano. Spring is a wonderful time of year in Alto Adige/South Tyrol and on the next day you could also take your time en route to Füssen with possible stopovers in Innsbruck or an excursion to the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain
