Hello! I am in the US Air Force and will be moving to Fussa (Yokota AB) in April '07. I plan on living off base and was wondering if I should bring my electronics. Things like a digital piano, my Playstation and DVD player (region free or I would just use the PS2). Any advice anyone wants to share would be appreciated.
Bring em'! If you will be getting a power converter from base, then you won't have any problems using your stuff. As for the DVD player, only reason to have a region free one is if you decide to get movies from off base rental or start your own anime collection. I have a region free DVD player just because I travel all over the world and never know whre those DVD may come from. Japanese PS2 games won't work in your US PS2 however. You are stuck with the ones available on base. Did you cancel your profile and re-join?

Thanks for your advice! The military always tells you to pretty much bring nothing, but then I always end up regretting leaving something behind (like my piano!) I have a region free DVD player for the same reasons as you. I buy movies from Britain and Japan, so region free is necessary. I'm looking forward to living in Japan. I've been begging for an assignment there for about 10 years. I think they are giving it to me as a retirement gift as this will be my last assignment. :D

Too bad you didn't get Okinawa. That was my retirement gift. You will truly enjoy Japan! The military doesn't tell you a lot of things which is why it is better to ask your sponsor or someone who has recently been there.
