by quailttu Online Now Jun 12, 2012 at 7:45 PM

I am starting to look at a honeymoon in Bora Bora. I am also looking at Santorini in the Greek Islands. Which would you prefer? suggestions for hotel in Bora bora? How long does it take to get there from LAX? Our budget is around 7000 all said and done. Thanks for any help you can provide!

May is low season but already good to go it could be doable, if you chose petite hôtellerie instead of high class hotel, you could stay there quite a few days, budget it would be enough.

I have no idea how much the flights to the respective destinations cost from your location. Greece is, of course, a lot cheaper than French Polynesia which is the most expensive destination you can go to. My estimate is that you can stay three, four or five times as long on Santorini than on Bora Bora for the same money... I would rather not go to FP in May, only from June - but it is ok. May on the Greek islands is perfect as it is not the big heat yet. If you go for Bora Bora I would not stay on a motu (little islands on the reef) because you would need transportation to any activity on the main island. (And on the main island you get around by bicycle very well, there are plenty of rental stations, particularly at Pointe Matira.) I would stay at a hotel at or near Pointe Matira because this is by far the best beach on the island. Last time I stayed at Le Maitai which is just a short stroll from Pointe Matira, and it was really nice. Just make sure you get a room with a view. They also have overwater bungalows. Right at Pointe Matira are the Interconti and Hotel Matira. There are also some of the cheaper options mentioned by cgf: Chez Nono, Pension Robert et Tina, Pension Maeva chez Rosine Masson. But really, for a honeymoon I would probably not want to stay at a pension with basic facilities... Best you check out the hotels to get an idea about the cost.

I loved santorini. You can add mykonos also. 3 or 4days in each place should be nice. I havent been to Tahiti but it is on my short list.
