      Taxi fare

      Johannesburg Apr 30, 2013 at 1:06 AM

How much would it cost to go from the airport to House on York(7 York Street, Kensington, South Bedfordview, 2047 Johannesburg)? My hotel suggests that it is best for them to arrange a pick up which would cost anywhere between 560 to 600 rands for the four of us. Is this correct? In the past we have found that taking a taxi from the airport is cheaper than arranging through the hotel. Please let me know.
      Thank you,

    • road trip from cape town to spain/london and back

South Africa May 10, 2013 at 12:52 AM

      Hi guys

We are a group of friends planning a road trip from cape town through africa to the UK with a kombi.

The reason why we are using a Kombi is so that we will have enough space and we want to fit a Toyota motor in the bus.-which Toyota motor would you guys suggest and is there enough spares available in African countries?

We don't have much time so we want to cover as much road as possible in a short amount of time.
We have done a southern africa trip with a fiat strada and covered 10000km,s in 18 days and want to go big this time.

Our concern is that do we need medical certificates, visas for some countries, which road would be the best to take and the safest so that we wont get stuck in mud and can we get pre-treatment for diseases such as Malaria?

Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.

We wish to do a walking tour with a good tour guide in Cape Town. We found Blue Monkey Tours very good, however, they are very pricey. Does anyone know of any other options? Any suggestions on good tours would be appreciated.

What to do for one day in Johannesburg?

      Johannesburg Apr 30, 2013 at 1:13 AM

We have one full day in Johannesburg. I looked around at city tours but did not find anything interesting. I do not want to walk around Museums or residences of past leaders. Are there any other suggestions? We wish to have a quick ride through the city and then do some off beat place if there is any in Johannesburg. Any suggestions on what we could do will be helpful.
The tour that I came across for half a day covering Johannesburg and Soweto costs 600 rands per person. Would it be cheaper to hire a cab for the whole day?

      Car Rentals

Could someone suggest a good car rental company? We are a family of four -- husband, wife and two teenaged boys. We would need a car to go from J'burg to Kruger and back for four days and then from PE through the Garden Route to CT and then maybe in CT for 4 days.
Could you also suggest which brand of car we should hire? We will be having at least 3 suitcases.
Any suggestions regarding self drive would be much appreciated.

      Cape Town - Garden Route

South Africa Apr 22, 2013 at 7:30 AM

Hi, my husband and I are coming again to SA for the 4th time in November. We are staying in Cape Town for 4 days and wondered if anyone out there can give us anymore ideas on what to do, where to go. We've done the usual Table Mountain, Robben Island etc, I've read about the Africa Dance Theatre in Cape Town - is this worth a visit - got some good reviews on Trip Advisor? Also what about the 2 Oceans Aquarium on the V&A Waterfront? Any new ideas would be grateful. We're travelling the Garden Route and will be staying at various places en route. One of the places is Plet Bay - staying at the Redbourne Country Lodge. This will be the first time we've stayed here, we'll be here for 3 days - what is there to do around this area?...see or do? Then on from there we're at Beluga House, Wilderness - again any good ideas - see/do/interesting places etc etc.
      Your help is always grateful!

Recommendation for accommodation in the Bloem area

      Bloemfontein Nov 5, 2011 at 3:25 AM

Hi We are a party of eight (two sprightly couples in their 70s plus a family of four with kids aged 8 and 5) looking for two nights accommodation in or around Bloem for the nights of 5th and 6th January 2012, which is proving to be surprisingly hard to find. Ideally we would prefer self catering, but otherwise affordable B&B or family-friendly hotel accommodation would be fine. We have our own transport, so we don't necessarily need to be in the city - we would also consider something in the Kimberly vicinity, although this wouldn't be first choice. Any ideas? Regards Cathy

    • Transport options between Harrismith and Kroonstad

Free State Apr 27, 2011 at 12:25 PM

Hello Within my planning for South Africa trip I have encountered a problem. I think it is not such a big thing, but surprisingly I can`t find anything on the net concerning the transport options between the towns of Harrismith and Kroonstad in Free State. I plan to visit Northern Drakensberg (Mont-aux-Sources, Sentinel, etc.), after them, by hotel transport to Harrismith, but from Harrismith, it seems, there is no publicly available transportation. Thanks in advance for any kind of advice or information.

      Franshoek Dec 24, 2002 at 12:20 PM

What's going on? I posted a Q here yesterday, and I've received a reply but I can't read it, and I can't even find my original posting anymore. Was it something I said? Here's the question again: "Has anyone been to any "self-catering" cottages in Franschhoek? The guidebook I have recommends Klein Dassenberg, Blueberry Hill, Owl Cottage, and several others. The prices quoted are only a bit more expensive than a private room at a hostel, and they sound really nice. Was wondering if they really are as nice as they are described, for such a low price? any recommendations?"
