No such thing like 'the cheapest way'. The airport is basically in the middle of nowhere. reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/qu...? From: Flughafen Frankfurt-Hahn, Hahn (Hunsrück) To: Stuttgart When you type 'Flughafen Frankfurt' do NOT pick Frankfurt's airport from the list. Hahn has nothing to do with Frankfurt.

The Frankfurt-Hahn airport is not near the city Frankfurt am Main - a common mistake people make. My suggestion would be to take one of the shuttle buses from Frankfurt-Hahn to Heidelberg, then catch the train to Stuttgart. I checked the websites out and the shuttles to Heidelberg run regularly and for one adult is 20 euros, add another 25 euro for the train to Stuttgart. You can find details at: hahn-airport.de/default.aspx... The info on the bus to Heidelberg with times is at: hahn-express.de/hahn_bus_pop... An alternate plan would be to take the shuttle to Frankfurt am Main (13 euros) and then the train, but the train would cost more. You would have to compare the times you will be traveling to see which would be more cost effective. The shuttle to Frankfurt am Main info is located at: omnibusse.bohr.de/routes/wtc... Hope this helps!

Cheapest: shuttle bus to Mannheim or Heidelberg (EUR 20,00 pp) and from there using regional trains to Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg Ticket EUR 21,00 for 1 person, EUR 25,00 for 2 persons ...). If you're traveling alone you may also opt for the faster trains. Note that the discounted specials for the faster trains (IC/EC or ICE) are only good for the connection bought for. Standard fare tickets and Baden-Württemberg Ticket can be bought on spot. Baden-Württemberg Ticket covers also the trams and buses in Stuttgart (till 3am next day). DB timetable reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/qu... Start: Mannheim Hbf Start: Heidelberg Hbf Destination: Stuttgart Hbf For connections with regional trains only select as means of transport "only local transport".

I suggest you to use cheap airlines from Frankfurt-Hahn airport directly to Stuttgart airport. You can get the flight to Stuttgart complete with flight back to Frankfurt-Hahnairport for 137,42 euros with the cheapest airline. If you are having including "train to flight" you may use ICE train from Frankfurt Airport station to Stuttgart central station for free. Stuttgart is having excellent public meanings (underground train, s-train and bus) or you may use car sharing on airport for travelling from Stuttgart airport into city centre.

If you book early enough there is a 34 euro fare direct from the train terminal at the airport to Stuttgart. You must take that specific train so if your plane is late you have to pay a change fee whatever that is. Otherwise it is 59 euro. (I wish I had known about the reduced price when I did that trip in 2010). Karl

    > If you book early enough there is a 34 euro fare direct from the train terminal at the airport to Stuttgart. You're talking about Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). OP will arrive at (Frnankfurt-)Hahn Airport (HHN). Some 120 km west of Frankfurt Airport. No trains at all there. > You must take that specific train so if your plane is late you have to pay a change fee whatever that is. You can change/return discounted train specials only until one day before (train) departure for a fee of EUR 15,00. If you miss this specific train because your plane arrives late the money for the ticket is completely lost.

@Reisefan25 There are flights from Hahn to Stuttgart? Never heard of. And on the Hahn Airport website this is not mentioned either. hahn-airport.de/default.aspx...

Agree with abalada and the other posters who recommended taking the shuttle bus to Heidelberg and the local trains from there to Stuttgart. Lesson learned: Just because it says "Frankfurt Airport" on your plane ticket doesn't mean it's Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). Many budget airlines fly instead into "Frankfurt" Hahn airport (HHN). Countless other cities have similar "budget" airports you'll fly into if you're not careful. Caveat Emptor.

excellent pick up - I did not even consider there was another airport "not" close by to FF. 120km??? sheesh that would be like flying into San Diego and saying it is LA.

Those who fly Ryanair and other discount airlines use Frankfurt-Hahn. I know many people that have made the mistake and show up at Frankfurt Main, only to miss their flight because of the distance. It really is misleading, not to mention inconvenient and the added costs to getting there add to the cost of your cheap flight. For a traveler new to Germany, it can be daunting. ~Brenda

@Roadquill: We have something like that for Boston now. Manchester (New Hampshire) Airport is now calling itself "Manchester-Boston Regional Airport" (MHT). It's roughly 90 km from Logan International Airport (BOS).

I would to thank all of you for advices and information. You scared me of Hahn airport so I decided to use SAS to fly to Munich. I hope it will be easier to organize transfer to Stuttgart. Is it possible to have bus directly from airport or I should go to Munich center first? Polinia

Stuttgart is a little over 3 hours by train from Munich Airport. Usually the quickest way is to take the S-1 or S-8 to Hauptbahnhof, then transfer to a long-haul train to Stuttgart. Take a look at reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/qu... for your best travel options. There's also a full-service German Rail travel counter at the airport should you require additional assistance.

BTW, in case you didn't know, Stuttgart has its own international airport (IATA Code: STR).
