Driving From Calais To Ceret- Advice on Route and Campsites

by marilynmondoe Online Now Jun 17, 2012 at 11:56 AM

Bonjour everyone Really excited about me and my families villa holiday in Ceret! We are driving down from Calais all the way to Ceret in the south. Can anyone advise us on easy/quickest/cheapest!/safest route and child friendly campsites on the way? (probably stopping only once to camp for 1 night only) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks marilyn

Can't advise you on campsites, sorry, but can recommend www.viamichelin.com and/or theaa.com/route-planner/inde... to help out with (printable) routes, estimated drive times, route info, potential toll charges etc etc.

Oh - lucky you ! - going to one of my favourite places in France. It is a long drive - around 750 miles - but the little mountain town of Ceret is beautiful. We always spend a day there when staying in Collioure - on the coast and a must if you do not already know it. If you are travelling with young children you may want to consider two overnight stops on such a long journey. Take a look at this site - http://www.campingfrance.com/UK One of our children belongs to the Caravan & Camping Club which has an international section with a Directory of camping sites abroad. The viamichelin site already recommended allows you to select options including roads to be travelled/motorways/avoid motorways/ avoid tolls/fastest/ scenic etc Motorways are fastest but Tolls may make them not the cheapest. If you enter all the options it will give you an estimate for fuel and toll costs. We aim for a combination of N(National) roads, and motorways - bearing in mind that the motorways around major towns and cities are usually toll free. Do come back for more info if necessary - and have a lovely holiday.

nice long ride and good advice already. Ceret indeed is nice, long time not there thus. You can use the viamichelin site and buy a paper map on a scale not more than 1;200 000 and compare direction, and see the town mentioned in michelin in relation to where in the map. then get those town here in destinations above right and see if there are tips on those towns here that canhelp you; Then this site is in FRench but has all the camping and those in the area too toocamp.com/annuaire-camping... hope it helps your planning
