Going to visit Ft. Lauderdale next winter and want to find a good spot to spend a day. Looking for some area near the beach with good shopping and restaurants and bars. We are staying near the airport so closer to that the better. Don't know where to go! Someplace available by public transportation.
One of the greatest ways to see Fort Lauderdale is to go downtown and take a ride on one of the water taxis. The ride will cost you about10 but you will see a part of the city that is not visible from the road. There are some absolutely gorgeous homes hidden away on some of the canals of the city. Some of the taxis, like the link I am sending to you, allow you get on and off all areas of the City for a day at one price. hey I used to live off there for many years. Great town. there are water canals and taxi service is limited to the inner canals, however you can catch a boat on the intracoastal like the jungle queen boat. fortlauderdaletours.net/?eve... you can see for shopping,restos,bar, las Olas blvd cant be beaten,and further up in Sunrise the Sawgrass Mills Mall, simon.com/mall/default.aspx?... http://www.lasolasboulevard.com the official tourist board there is sunny http://www.sunny.org/ then if you need specifics let me know;cheers

you realize that it is about an hour of driving time between fort lauderdale and pbi, so the shuttles are not cheap. ... more
