Questions about weather & location south of Tampa

by Jefie Online Now Oct 6, 2009 at 8:19 AM

Hello fellow VTers! My in-laws are thinking about spending a couple months in Florida next fall, more specifically somewhere south of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico, and I'm looking for some info for them. First of all, how's the weather and water temperature in November and December in that area? Second, any idea where would be a good spot for them considering my father-in-law likes to go on fishing trips and my mother-in-law enjoys snorkelling? Any tip would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

There are some wonderful places along the Gulf of Mexico to both stay and visit, I am sure your in-laws will really enjoy a month or so there. The weather is usually very pleasant and they will still need their sun cream. Some evening can get a little chilly (similar to a pleasant evening in the UK) Most of the newer houses have very good air con. which have both hot and cold facilities so the temperature is pleasant. If they are considering renting a private house I would recommend they look for one with a private electric heated swimming pool, as the water will be a bit cool during Nov/Dec. We are located in Venice, just south of Tampa, there are numberous places to charter fishing boats in this area. You can either hire a boat - around100 for the day - or book on a fishing trip and get the captains expertise. A lot of people go to the pier in Venice to fish and snorkelling. This is a lovely place for an evening walk. Sarasota and Venice are excellent locations to stay as they are quite central for travelling and sight seeing, close to some fabulous beaches, shops and lots of good golf courses. If I can give any infomation about any thing, please just ask. Regards Janet

Jefie, I Live about 1 hour north of the areas mentioned. For a 2-3 month rental in January thru March I would suggest the Venice - Sarasota area. My Son has a Condo about 2 blocks from Venice Beach, and we go there quite often when it is not being used. Traffic is not too bad and there are plenty of places to rent for that season. Very nice community. My Brother has a condo in Naples. It is nice, but very expensive and way too much traffic.

OK, good to know! It does sound like Venice Beach could be a good spot for them. Not to mention that we might be visiting them! Thanks again
