Without knowing where you will be staying it is difficult to advise, but if you are anywhere near Santa Maria Novella station then I suggest you seek out the fixed-price, limited-choice Trattoria Il Contadino on Via Palzzuolo. You'll find it full of local people, and it would be a good idea to get there early...they were queuing up outside by the time we left around 8.30pm. Florence has the advantage over Venice in that it is a living city which has suburbs and large numbers of 'ordinary people'. You will not find any restaurants/trattoria etc in the historical centre (Florence's is quite small) where visitors *never* go but if you are prepared to travel out into the suburbs you might.

Leics is spot on with her comment about Florence being a living city: you'll find locals everywhere. We had a great meal at Ciro and Sons - highly recommend. http://www.ciroandsons.com/ tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant...

When we were in Florence, we had two meals at the Ristorante Accademia in the Piazza San Marco (just around the corner from the Accademia Gallery on Via Ricasoli). On both occasions, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and food (their wine selection was also pretty impressive. We were staying just around the corner so this was convenient for us - but the bonus was that we were the only 'tourists' on both occasions!

One of the best palce to go where ususally locals go i Buca San Giovanni, close to Duomo. All Fiorentina soccer player go there and even famous actor. You can spens around 40 or 50 euro per person. If you want something different but nice I always suggest Cantina Barbagianni ten minutes far from duomo. Or another good restaurant is Baccarossa close to Santa Croce. Even Da Mimmo is a nice restaurant pretty close to Duomo but far enough for tourists.
