Figline Valdorno

by jennihs Online Now May 20, 2012 at 3:19 AM

We will be leaving La Spezia on August 9 or 11 (after spending 5 or 7 days in Rommigiore) and would like to visit the holiday park at Figline Valdorno (we run a park in Australia) for a couple of days. We will then have 3 - 5 days to spend in the area before we go back to Rome on the 16th Aug. Is there public transport to Figline? Would you recommend spending the additional days in Florence or perhaps Certaldo or San Gimmiano? I appreciate this is broad but any help will be very welcome.Thank-you

Would stay in Florence, and if some time left one night or trip to San Gimignano or Certaldo. Don't miss this beautifull towns. Look at the web photos/guides and decide! Book hotel in advace due Ferragosta- vacation time in Italy. Have a nice time in Bella Italia.

You can easily get to Figline Valdarno (note spelling) by train from Florence. Journey time is either 25 mins or 46 mins, depending on departure time (frequent trains). One-way fare is 4.60 euro. Train times, details and fares in English on the official Italian railway website: trenitalia.com/homepage_en.h... I would use Florence as a base. There is much to see and explore in the city but you can also take easy daytrips from Florence to Pisa and/or Lucca by train (see Trenitalia webiste), to Siena by express bus: sitabus.it/sita-toscana/Fire... to Fiesole in the hills overlooking Florence, using local bus 7: ataf.net/en/timetables-and-r... and to San Gimignano by a combination of train (or bus) to Poggibonsi and then bus to San Gim: sangimignano.net/tourist-inf...
