Yes...definitely! My friend found this place when we visited last year: Trattoria Il Contadino: "A bit of a 'find'..." - Florence Restaurant Tip by leics Not a lot of choice bust excellent food at extremely reasonable prices, and full of locals. Look on your map (or googlemaps) to find Via Palazzuolo. The trattoria is at 'your' end, so it'll only be 5-10 minutes walk. Za'Za, in Piazza del Mercato Centrale, is also less than 10 minutes' walk from Piazza SMN. Its food is excellent and it's still a very pleasant place to eat, despite being 'discovered' since my first visit several years ago. Well worth booking a table there: Za'Za: "Somewhere which seems to have been 'discovered'..." - Florence Restaurant Tip by leics and the Trattoria di Garibaldi (almost next door to Za'Za) was also very good when I ate there: Da Garibaldi: "Another useful trattoria......." - Florence Restaurant Tip by leics

One restaurant we enjoyed is in the Oltrarno (literally “the other side of the Arno”) area of Florence. It is located in Hotel Lungarno; it is Restaurant Borgo San Jacopo (lungarnocollection.com/en/th.... It offers excellent food and great views of the Arno. It is quite chic; but do not be intimidated. The atmosphere is warm, relaxing and welcoming. Enjoy Firenze, birthplace of the Renaissance.

We enjoyed both halves of Boccanegra (boccanegra.com/web/index.php..., it has a pizza/enoteca side and a formal restaurante side and also Il Latini, which serves big family platters and keeps serving until you are ready to burst, then the owner comes stops by and figures out how much you owe. Both are on my Florence page. Karl

Ristorante La Giostra, our friend's favorite restaurant, he goes to Florence once or twice a year. It shouldn't be too hard to find. Great ambiance, a bit dark and gothic looking inside. Food is fantastic! Address: Via Borgo Pinti 12/r, Florence, Italy Phone: +39.055.24.13.41 Website: ristorantelagiostra.com/ingl...

For more excellent suggestions, go to www.chowhound.com (Italy section). The people on this site are extremely helpful and friendly and will steer you in the right direction. Many are natives or experienced travelers. Two of my favorites were Pennello's and Taverna di Bronzini. Pennello's had a fantastic antipasta buffet, and I hope they're still in business on Rue Dante. Cibreo is another idea.
