Is this museum open on Easter Sunday? And cost? Do we need to make reservations? Mom wants to go see Donatello's Mary Magdalene so I have to pencil it in with everything else on the board.....
http://museo.operaduomo.fi.it/ I'm afraid it's closed on Easter Sunday, according to it.duomo.waf.it/museo_dett/2... (linked from the official site above). Entrance is 6 euro. You can book online via the link above, but I don't think it's essential.

oh, isn't that a different museum? The Fiore not the duomo? Different address? I will double check that one too...

*Wipes sweat from brow* Easter really is a biggie, I'm afraid. Especially Easter Sunday, when it comes to churches etc etc.

wellll, mom wants to go to church on Easter sunday too, so I guess we'll be hoofing it around the Duomo until we either find some holy place for her to duck into or we simply give up and go have some wine...... :)

Ooooh...just found out that Easter Sunday at the Duomo is a bit special: duomofirenze.it/feste/pasqua... and turismo.intoscana.it/intosca... and youtube.com/watch?v=wTuSvA2s... That's your Sunday morning sorted! :-)

If you can possibly do it, visit the Duomo Museum. The Mary Magdalene by Donatello has got to be one of the most heart-rending sculptures I have ever seen. It stopped me in my tracks. There is also an amazing Pieta by Michaelangelo in the Duomo Museum. I like it better than the one in St. Peter's. It is very emotional. Just these two sculptures are worth anything they charge you. "Still at the Duomo Museum" - Museo del Opera del Duomo Tip by Beausoleil "The Duomo Museum . . . don't miss it!" - Museo del Opera del Duomo Tip by Beausoleil Then if you visit the Baptistry and admire th Ghiberti Doors, the "Gates of Paradise" be aware they are copies. The real ones are in the Duomo Museum. It is really a must-see and I'm surprised it doesn't get more publicity. Have a great trip.

Trying to figure out how we can do it. If it's closed at Easter, then we can't go on the Sunday and it likely won't be open on the Monday. We leave for Rome on Tuesday at 8am.

I think (*think*, and only from reading) that the service is at 11 and a dove-on-a-wire (not a real one, presumably) comes from the Duomo during the 'Gloria' in the service (maybe around 12?) and sets off the fireworks. I've also read the you need to go early to get in for the 11am Easter mass (which makes sense, obviously). It's not clear whether the museum will be closed on Easter Monday. The site doesn't say it's generally closed on Mondays and Easter Monday is a public holiday rather than a religious one. So you may be lucky.
