Activities at Oludeniz

by rbdoshi Online Now Apr 18, 2012 at 1:47 AM

Hi all, I am planning to visit Oludeniz around May end for 2-3 days and needed some info if someone can help. 1.What are the entry fees for the lagoon? 2.What are typical rates for paragliding? Does the activity take place at a specific time of the day or does it happen throughout the day? 3.How long does it take to visit butterfly valley and come back to Oludeniz? Is there any entry fee for butterfly valley? How much does the one way boat ride cost from Oludeniz? 4.What are the accommodation facilities at butterfly valley? Please share any contact details/websites for the same if possible. Thanks in advance for all the help. Cheers!!

    1. The lagoon itself does not have entry fees. Various parts of its beach are in private hands and you will pay to enter those or to use sunbeds etc. There is ample beach space available without payment. 2. From observation only, paragliding happens throughout the day (weather permitting, obviously). Certainly 4 times per day: oludenizbeach.com/paraglidin... 3. Yes, there is an entrance fee for Butterfly Valley. If you don't want to pay you can just wander around the beach area. On my trip not a vast amount of time was allowed for the visit because I took a boat trips which included Butterfly Valley as part of a longer 'swimming' trip (which was very pleasant). There are private 'taxi' boats which will take you, of course. I'm not sure if there are Butterfly Valley only boat trips. There is little to do once you have seen the butterflies...a pebbly beach and one cafe. It took about 30 minutes to get there by sea, as far as I recall...may be quicker in a smaller taxi boat. oludenizbeach.com/butterfly.... 4. Very basic indeed. No electricity. thebutterflyvalley.blogspot.... kelebeklervadisi.org/?lang=e... (2012 prices and info not yet uploaded)

I should add that it has been some years since I was in Fethiye/Olu Deniz, so some of my information may not longer be absolutely accurate.

Ah well...am sure you'll enjoy it when you get there! It occurred to me that by 'the lagoon' you might mean the northerly end of the Olu Deniz curved beach thingie, where the water is much calmer? If so then, as I recall, pretty much all of that area is paid entry ...sand, loungers etc. But it's not hugely expensive for the day. And, to be frank, I thought the beach area was *much* nicer anyway...

Wow!! you seem to be online 24x7.. a luxury my job never allows me :) Wanted to ask one more thing. It appears, most hotels at Oludeniz charge extra for AC. Is that so? If yes, is it the case with hotels across Turkey? And would AC be requred if I am travelling between 23rd may and 5th june? (I am doing Istanbul, Pamukkale, Oludeniz and Capadoccia.) Thanks once again for all your help.

I'm really not here 24/7. I do work elsewhere! But the smiley online thing does linger after people have logged-off.... It's not unusual to pay separately for AC, no, although it generally varies from hotel to hotel. It's possible the hoteliers in Olu Deniz & the surrounding area have come to an agreement about it...it is very much a holiday area, I think for Turks as well as package holidaymakers from elsewhere in Europe. I'd def want AC in summer (I'm a Brit and not used to sticky nights) but if I was visiting when you're visiting I'd check the climate averages (remembering they *are* only averages...it was 40+C when I visited that area in mid-July) and see how you feel: holidaycheck.com/climate-wet... wordtravels.com/Cities/Turke... wordtravels.com/Cities/Turke...

Surely you do work elsewhere. I was just refering to your prompt replies. Guess I conveyed it wrong. Anyway, Nevermind. Thanks once again. All the information shared by you has been of great help. :)
