i still have a plane ticket to fair isle... does it count? my flght was cancelled for a week, due to fog.. i sadly never made it there

That bad eh? Welcome to VT though! We are a happy bunch here :-) Hope you build a page from Fair Isle. I hope to sail back there some day. Had only time to dtop over for one night last July.... Best wishes, David

Yes - I was there for a week in summer 2003. I was on a "tour" arranged by Shetland Wildlife. It was designed to be a week in the life of the island. We stayed at the Bird Observatory, which luckily also had the only bar on the island. We met with weavers, spinners, botanists, archaeologists, weathermen, crofters and even the ranger and warden. We met bird people from around the world and participated in bird surveys. To top it off, they threw an island-wide party for us with local musical talent. We knew half of the redidents by the time we left. The ferry crew were all local and wonderful.
