      Easter in Provence

      Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur 14 hours ago

      Hello
I'm spending Easter in Provence (based in Marsellie and doing day trips out) and would like some ideas on what to do in Provence over Easter. I'm alone so would like some nice things to do to keep me company! I like markets, festivals or just easter events.
I would like to visit Aix En Provence, Arles, Lyon, Avignon etc but don't know which days would be best to see these towns. Do things close over the weekend?
      I'm here for 5 days.
Or any other towns anyone would recommend to see?
I can't drive around but am more then happy with public transport. Any help would be great!!

      Arles Mar 22, 2014 at 10:51 AM

Our river cruise ends in Arles and we have a flight booked that day (a Thursday) from Marseilles to Paris. Can we take a taxi from the cruise port to the train station and buy the train tickets when we get there? Is there a manned ticket window or just machines for tickets? Our flight doesn't leave until 1:40 pm and by looking at the train schedule it looks like there are a few morning trains that travel that route.

Train for an American from Paris to Avignon

      Avignon 9 hours ago

Looking at taking the train in the fall from Paris to Avignon. In researching tickets the central French site diverts me automatically over to Rail Europe where of course the tickets are much more expensive. How would you recommend purchasing the least cost tickets on TGV I think they are called "prems," in a form that I can print them in advance.

Second, which is the best train station in Paris to catch the train to Avignon. I understand that I have the choice of Gard De Lyons or Disneyland Paris. Am I correct? Thanks for the help gang.

    • How to divide up 6 days in Nice/Aix-en-Provence--Suggestions Please?

      Nice Apr 7, 2014 at 3:46 PM

      Hello,

My husband, 2 sons (17 and 12), and I will be arriving into Nice from the United States at around 11:30 am near the end of July and staying in the French Riviera and Aix en Provence for 6 days before we head to the Italian Riviera. We would like suggestions on how to divide up the trip.

We would like to drive to Aix (inland route) and stop at some of the little towns along the way. We hear it is a beautiful drive, especially this time of year. On the way back to Nice, we also want to hit some of the smaller towns like Cassis. Of course, we will want to visit Antibes, Cannes, St. Tropez, St. Paul de Vence, Menton, Monaco, etc. We have been told that it is not smart to try to drive East on the Coast of Nice at this time of year due to traffic, so we were planning to take trains.

We think we will be too tired to drive when we arrive the first night. We had originally been planning to stay the first night in Nice, then drive to Aix for 2 nights, then back to Nice as our home base for 3 more nights.

Our second plan was to spend the first night in Antibes, the next 2 nights in Aix, and the remaining 3 nights in Nice.

Now that I started looking into accommodations, I remember the reason we usually rent apartments, so I am thinking maybe we should stay in Nice for 3 nights and then Aix for 3 nights or perhaps Nice for 4 nights and then Aix for 2 nights.

Because I have never been to any of these places, I was hoping that someone might have suggestions.

We like eating, shopping (unique items--not T-shirts and not brand name items), little towns, people watching, tourist attractions, art (but not so much museums), and eating (higher end). (Of course, if anyone has any "can't miss" experiences, we welcome those as well. I am just beginning my research.) We will likely go to the beach once or twice for an hour or two, but it is definitely not the focus of our trip.

Any recommendations on how to best divide up our time given your knowledge of the area--traffic, transportation, our interests, time of year, etc.?

      Thank you!!!

      Nice Mar 29, 2014 at 11:04 AM

      Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of staying in Nice for a week this summer. I've been to the French Riviera before and visited Cannes, Monaco, and Nice. I was wondering if there are other interesting spots to visit this time around as I don't want to revisit the same places again. I will have a car while there so that's not a problem. I love cute coastal cities with sandy beaches but also nice hills overlooking the sea.

      All suggestions are very welcome!

      Thanks in advance :-)

by Carrot137 Online Now Mar 29, 2012 at 12:57 PM

During my stay in Nice this August I was thinking of renting a bike and cycling around the area. One of the places that came to mind is the city of Eze. The problem is that is perched atop a mountain. Is it feasible to travel by bike up there? How long would it take to travel up? It would be a wonderful experience to do so, but would like some insight. My level of fitness I would rate is above average, so no problems in that area.

We are on a cruise in the Mediterranean and will stop in Monaco for one day. We are taking a tour in the morning and come back from there at 12:30. We were thinking of taking a taxi to Eze and back. We could also take a tour from the cruise ship but we rather go by ourself. Does anyone know how much a taxi for this distance is, is it feasable to go to Eze and back to the ship in about 4.5 hours? Are there taxis waiting in Eze for return or do we have to let ours wait? So many questions and maybe one of you can help us. What is your advise or experience on that?

9-10 days too long to stay here?

      Hello
I am thinking of going to South France this summer.Found a beautiful bed and breakfast with swimming pool just behind Eze.Looked at Eze pages on here and it looks a stunning village.Do you think 9-10 days here is too long and I will get bored?I am looking for a relaxing break and will have a hire car so can travel around etc.Looking at other peoples pages on here it seemed most people only visited for the day.I like walking and beaches and scenery and sipping a drink in a cafe etc.Does Eze have a good selection of cafes and places to eat?I have not booked the bed and breakfast yet as I wanted to check the location is right for me.I fancy a scenic and relaxing location where I can unwind and walk and take pics and sample the local food.

      Thanks

      Rachel.
