Your favorite places for music in Croatia,Hungary, Czech Republic . . .

by brainhouse Online Now Jun 20, 2011 at 10:58 PM

I hope to visit those listed above as well as Netherlands, Spain and Morocco this summer (my trip is somewhat flexible). I am a musician and I appreciate all kinds of music. On this trip I would like to try to get around and see and experience as much live "musicking" as is possible - solo performers to large orchestras. rock, funk, jazz, afrobeat, brass band, salsa . . . whatever. So please help by listing your favorite venues, theaters, bars, parks, or online calendar listing sites, in any of these countries. I have used google, but some suggestions would help enhance that. I am considering some of the festivals, but would rather more personal settings in general. Thanks for any suggestions

Hi if you want to hear and see music in Morocco then you need to get there soon! July and August are pretty much the months when many towns around Morocco have music festivals - even this month there is the famed Gnaoua festival in Essaouira - think its next week/this weekend. Agadir has a well known festival in Aug always with a good line up - Tafraoute has a major festival 12-15 July. Look for what info is available for whos having what on - some places only give a months notice of their dates and sometimes not alll the major Tourist offices get to know but often they do - you can try the major centres of Er Rachidia and Rabat may be helpful. Immouzzer nr Agadir also has a well known one usually end of August as part of its honey festival celebrations. Tioute and Taroudant have well known ones too - just need to find out the dates....maybe big hotel like Palais Salama might know so you could try giving them a call. Then of course the big festival at Imilchil - its usually on in August but with Ramadan on in August last year it was not held until September and I went for my 2nd time to the festival. The music is right in town at night for 2 or 3 nights and the historic huge 3 day marriage events and markets are about 20 km away Fri-Sunday. then also that will be marriage time across Morocco and theres alwasy music at weddings! for sure Morocco is an excellent place for some fab music! Also Tinariwen are travelling this year - they are coming to London in October - maybe check out their itinerary for where else they plan to be. All the best.

August in Amsterdam has free music across the spectrum from jazz to classical to fado and everything in between and mostly free---The open air theatre in the Vondelpark has free music all month, and the Uitmarkt is the last week of August when there is more free music, art, theater and dance (google uitmarkt 2011)...
