Bus from Airport direct to Estoril?

by Gerald_D Online Now Jul 23, 2010 at 9:06 AM

I am asking this question on behalf of my wife and mother-in-law who will be going to a wedding near Estoril in 2 week's time...... There is an old VT tip that says: "The ScottURB Airport Shuttle bus, runs direct from Lisbon airport to the bus station at Estoril in 30 minutes, & costs Eur8. It leaves the airport every hour, on the hour, from 0700 to 2100, with a last bus at 2230." Is this still correct? (I have a problem to get the maps of the ScottURB site to work)

If the ScottURB shuttle bus you're talking about happens to be in service no longer Your wife and mother-in-law can always take advantage of the very inexpensive (350 Euro a person)AeroBus which runs regularly - every 20 mins. - right outside the arrivals terminal which services and makes stops at major hotel dispatch areas and the city's transport hubs such as Cais do Sodre, it's last stop, which is the electric train terminus for Estoril and Cascais. It's a quick and easy connection once they're off the AeroBus which deposits passengers right in front of Cais do Sodre. From here all they need to do is pick up the train ticket and off they go with the train which runs Lisbon-Cascais-Lisbon very frequently. Estoril is the stop before Cascais. The whole train trip Lisbon-Estoril usually takes 30 mins. BTW, when getting on the AeroBus, they must tell the driver (they all speak English) of their desired Cais do Sodre stop. Electronic announcement of each stop is also done while in transit. Their other option would be to take a cab which will be very costly indeed. If they're arriving in Lisbon at a decent hour, AeroBus is the way to go. One last thing, upon arrival, if they're not in such a rush, they should consider stopping by at the Tourist Information counter in the great lobby as they come out from the customs area. Here they'd be glad to offer them assistance and pointers of all sorts, as well as free maps of the city and the environs.

The Estoril Coast is well served by a very efficient Public transport system. Our first experience started at the airport. As instructed, we took the Aerobus which had a pick-up area right in front of the terminal. It had an area for your luggage and the cost was Euro 3,50 per person. The Aerobus didn't depart until it was full. After going through the city of Lisbon, we got off at the last stop - Cais do Sodre' train station (near the River Tego). From there we took the train to Estoril which was Euro 1,70 per person and the trip took about 30 minutes. The train traveled all along the beautiful coastline. The Estoril train station is minutes away from the Casino if that helps any.

Thank you everyone. Mother-in-law is 80 and it would have been nice if that ScottURB bus was still running.

Your 80-year old mother in law and your wife will be just fine in Lisbon, a very tourist/visitor-friendly city Tell them to not hesitate to asks around where the general public are glad to offer assistance when they can As a little precaution, tho Lisbon is one of Europe's safest cities overall, it has its share of petty pickpocket crime principally occuring in the city's main public transport (trams, buses and trains)which one can easily ward off by keeping one's valuables securely hidden and always on the alert. The AeroBus however is nothing to be much concerned about as its passengers are all travellers and tourists alike.

Agreed! The Aerobus is efficient* and stops right outside the Cais do Sodre station so there is minimal walking involved. The trains to Estoril run every 20 minutes and sitting on the left hand side you get some very good views of the river. * Although the timetable says they run every 20 minutes, I have personally also had to wait until the bus was full. Strange way to run a bus.
