Hi,
I am in Rio de Janeiro and would like to go to Ilha Grande next friday, the 24th of may 2013 until the 27th.
I've been told that during weekends, it get's quite packed, and you need to book in advance;
Since it is low season now, is this still recommended?
Also: Does anybody can recommend me a place to stay? I am in my 30's, single traveller, would like to meet nice people, but not be in a place full with party-people.
Thank you!!
Saar
We just found out that we will be in/around Rio during the start of Carnival 2014! We are just working on an itinerary for two weeks in Brazil, however things have changed since out recent discovery. Here's what we were thinking of doing:
1/30 - Buenos Aires-Iguazu Falls
1/31 - Iguazu - Salvador
2/4 - Salvador - Ouro Preto(via Belo Horizonte)
2/7-Ouro Preto-Rio
2/10-Rio-Buzios
2/14 Buzios to GIG(late flight home)
I think getting accommodations on Rio on the dates suggested will be a nightmare! Should we go to Rio at the start of Carnival or perhaps the end of our trip 2/12-14?? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
I am leaving Buzios tommorrow morning. Do not have an clear idea on how to get to this apartment in the area of Rio or Copacabana: The owner or manager wrote the following information: Se você chegar pelos Aeroportos Santos Dumont ou Galeão, pode pegar o ônibus "FRESCÃO" que o deixará a 50 metros do apto e da sede da Agência, onde retirará as chaves.
I am in Buzios right now. I am planning to take a taxi that will take to bus station, Auto Viacao 1001 from here to the airport at Rio de Janeiro. According to the directions given to me by the owner do I take the Frescao to my final destination? Will the Frescao take my two pieces of luggage? Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank You
I will be leaving to Rio in a couple of days. I will be spending a couple of days in Buzios and seven nights in Rio. Should I take US cash with me? or should I use the local banks to withdraw money using my Bank's ATM? I need to pay for the rent of the places where I am staying at and also need to have cash for the bus transfer, dinning, etc. Any suggestions please help. Thank You
Hello,
I´m going to visit Rio in three days. I would like to ask two last questions :
1. At the International airport, I need to change a little money for the bus, what`s the best change ATM or a change office ?
If I draw out money in ATM airport, is the same comission that in Rio city ATM or is bigger ?
2. In the weekend, I would like to visit Pao de Azucar or Corcovado but I think there`ll a lot of people. Which one is less crowded ?
Thank you for your help. Kind regards
Victor

Any suggestions?
Thank you!!
Hi,

I recently picked up sailing, did a competent crew course and essential navigation.
I would like find a small fun boat I can join for a sailing trip in/around Rio/ilha grande.
Not to fancy, but good.
Any help?

Hi,
I will be travelling to Rio on the 17th of may, staying for 10 days.
I am a single traveller, 36 years old and would like to meet fellow travellers or locals.
Which neighbourhood is the best one to stay in, to look for a B & B, small hotel?
Thanks!!
Saar
I'm trying to book a three or four star beachfront hotel on 2 March, 2014 for 9 nights without much success. I appreciate that the beginning of my holiday coincides with the end of the carnival, but only backpackers hostels or top end hotels are available. Is it possible that hotel rooms that far ahead haven't gone on sale yet, or am I being naive and the hotels are truly sold out? I have booked one room in the Barra beach area which has a full cancellation policy, but it's a bit further out that I would have liked and a bit over budget: it's my 'Plan B' and I am hoping to cancel it and get a nearer, cheaper room nearer the time. Is this realistic?
Hello,
I'm going to visit Rio the next week. My fligth will arrive at 17 : 15 P.M., so I don't know if we'll get the Real bus to Ipanema because when we arrive to Ipanema bus stop, we have walking until rua Gomez Cameiro with two suitcases in the dark. Do you know it may be dangerous ?
The other option, we can get a yellow taxi at the airport, do you know how much the taxi to Ipanema more or less ?
Thank you. Kind Regards
I'm moving to Rio at the end of August. I have been to Rio 4 times and spent months living there. I have lived in Copacabana and Barra da Tijuca. I would like to find an apartment in these neighborhoods. I would to talk with owners and not a middle person or agency. I need the apartment to be 2 bedrooms and 1 or 2 bathrooms. I'm disabled, so I would need a nursing tech or caring heart person I can train to care for me for 7 days a week. Thank you so much!
I need information on some type of transportation that would take from the airport to Buzios. Is it possible to reach Buzios from GIG for me and my wife (we are traveling with luggage and a backpack) under 60 dollars or should I rent a car and take with me or rent a GPS system, if there is such a thing to use in Brazil?
Hi,
How busy is Rio during May? I do not like it to be to crowdy, but also would be able to meet fellow travellers.
But I guess Rio is never really quite, no?
And what about Ilha Grande during May?
And what about the weather?
Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Saar
Just wondering if the shops and restaurants are open on Sundays or is everything closed?

My itinerary has changed on my flight from Milwaukee to Curitiba. I now only have 1hr and 20min to change from Delta to GOL at Rio de Janeiro International Airport. I read that both airlines are in Terminal 1, but do I have enough time to clear customs and get my bags on the next flight? Is it better to try being re-routed through either Sao Paulo or Brasilia?
Hi,
Can anyone reccommend me a tour agency that can provide tours from Rio De Janeiro to Machu Picchu ?
Thank you so much
Joseph
I would love to check out some shows and futbol games while in Rio or any surrounding cities closeby. I'll be spending 2 weeks with my girlfriend, taking in the carioca vibes, dancing, drinking, and hanging around the Rio praia's!
If anyone can help out with shows. Especially if Jorge Ben or Seu Jorge will be playing (hopefully). Also, if anyone would like to get together to play some rock or funk music. I am a drummer of 15+ years and I will be bringing my drumsticks with me for this trip!!
i'm English and me and partner want to go on holiday to Rio this year, i've never been before and the travel agent basically told us not to go due to risk factors. I've looked online and all i can see are the obvious ones of not making yourself look like a tourist and flashing valuables around, which is surely a common sense you would follow when visiting any city, even cities in the UK you would be a bit careful. I am fascinated by Brazil and i really really want to go. If any one has any useful tips- travellers or locals, then i'd be so grateful. The things i'm looking for are; the best places to visit in Rio, safety risks, places to avoid, tips on how to blend in, the right clothes to wear, and how to be respectful to the culture. Any answers would really be appreciated, thank you.
Can anyone recommend a good gym for weight training and cardio in Ipanema? I am staying on R. Barao de Torres & Farme de Amoeda? Obigado!
Is the Hyundai i30 a good and reliable car to own in Brasil? If so, would you prefer a manual or automatic gear shift ? Obrigado, in advance. James
Hi everyone. I am trying to choose an apartment and can't figure out the best, non-touristy area to live in. Any suggestions?
Brazil now has a 300 reais a day limit on ATM Machines.. That is about $150.US a day.. I doubt you will want to be limited to only that small of an amount when on Vacation. I verified this new rule when I called my contact person in Rio.. My advice is to STAY AWAY fro Brazil..
Oi, I will be moving to Barra Tijuca in April 2013. Can anyone recommend an upscale Night Club for people over 30, jazz e salsa music? Obrigado
Hi guys, We planning for a week stay to watch final match & must visit chirsto rendentor. That would be around July 10~17 of 2014. Pls advise stay & tour package. Tq, Dhanik Malaysia
There are many questions I have about this topic. But I'll keep it short. My main focus is to stay in Brazil for one month and be on a budget to enjoy all it has to offer. So here it is: 1. What city is resonable to stay in for the world cup? (Price and travelling wise) 2. Should I stay in a hotel or hostile? 3. Should I arrive into another country, then take a train or bus to Brazil? 4. If there's any other useful info you can give me on how to save money on travel and rooming, that would be awesome. Thanks. Gene
I'll be staying in rua de laranjeiras for carnaval near the corcovado metro station is it dangerous ? best regards ANA
My girlfriend and I will be in Ipanema for 1 week, our first time in Rio. We get there February 19. I want to know, are the beaches still busy even after Carnival has passed? We are hoping that the beaches will be packed and busy, but I wasn't sure because it is after Carnival. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I am looking forward to a great time in Rio. Thanks!!
I unfortunately will only be in Rio for one day (who goes to Rio for one day) in mid-March. If I only have time for one tour, should I go to Sugarloaf for a closer view of the city or Corcovado for a larger but higher view and the experience of being near the beautiful statue. I realize that a lot depends on the weather in early to mid-March. Your insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you TanMy68
