Any insight as to the best driving directions from Campeche to Akumal?

We are driving from Playa del Carmen to Merida and then down to Campeche- after this rather than go back the same route it would be nice to know another way.. Any info on the roads ? We will need to get to Akumal the same day we leave Campeche. Thanks
