Visiting in Dec 2010. Where would you recommend going to view the Monarchs? How to get there (cheap)? How much does admission cost? Children's rates?
The butterflies should be here by then but, since it's quite cold, it might be a bit harder to see them. Anyhow, I don't know about sanctuaries right in the state of Mexico but I do know that there should be at least one on the way to Valle de Bravo (past Toluca city). There is one called SIERRA CHINCUA that is in the state of Michoacan but right next to the border of the state of Mexico (west). The fees are quite low, we paid 20 pesos to park our car and then paid35 (always pesos) per adult to access the sanctuary by foot but the kids fees must be also something like 20 pesos. However I read in another question that your children are teens so they may be no longer eligible for "children's rates" anymore. It's very cheap anyway....
