We will be in Ethiopia in January and ending Feb 4. We would like to get to Eritrea. I keep reading that it is NOT possible to get there by land. Can we, in fact, get through Djubuti? Thanks, Joe
I don't know...but I'd like to know, so I'm tracking this post! A friend of mine did cross between Eritrea and Djibouti, but that was some years ago and border crossings in that region do tend to open and close all the time. I heard that the border between Eritrea and Sudan reopened (between Kassala and Tessenei), so if it is still open, going via Sudan might also be an option if you can get a Sudanese visa.

Ethiopia and Eritrea are effectively at war with UN Peacekeepers at the border. Much like the 2 Koreas. Have a look here: VT Forum temporarily unavailable The current governemnt of Eritrea is not big on tourism unfortunately. Good luck.
