London Luton - Glasgow

by noelleau Online Now Jul 5, 2012 at 2:39 PM

Good evening everyone! I would be glad if you could tell me how can I get to Glasgow from London(Luton) in the cheapest way? I have no idea and actually and I'm not an expert when it comes to moving around, especially abroad! I was thinking about a last minute flight when I'll arrive at the airport but I have a huge luggage (32 kilos). Could you give me some advice, please?

A lst minute flight will be about the most expensive way to go to Glasgow from Luton. Is it not possible for you to book a flight in advance? Considering the weight of your luggage, it might be better to take a train or a bus.

You might as well fly but book a flight that gives you plenty of time - even if it means hanging a few hours at the airport - Luton's OK as airports go. With 32 k's of luggage the bus or train options are going to be, literally, a pain as you'll have to get into either Luton or London before you can even start your journey north. Have a look at the www.easyjet.com site for suitable flights and fares. Also note that a last minute train will cost a fortune too.

Book on the internet a tkt with www.easybus.co .uk from Luton to central London, Earls Court. if you book in advance it can be as low as £2. Walk 300m to Earls court tube station, catch the district line 3 stops to Victoria(£3?), then walk with your suitcase to Victorai bus terminal where you can catch a national express bus www.coach.nationalexpress.com to Glasgow for as little as £18 if you book far enough in advance or www.uk.megabus.com for as little as £5 advance booking. That would be the cheapest way, but probably the most advisable way would be to take the National Express bus direct from Luton Airport to Glasgow. for as little as £40 with an advance booking. I would choose the second option, it would be more convenient, Hope this is helpful

If easyJet is your preference, you can pre-purchase extra kilos of baggage allowance. The basic is 20kg. Do not turn up at checkin expecting to sort it out then. If you do that the rates are much higher.

Last minute flights are *never* cheap in the UK (or europe, as far as I know). Cheapest fares are for booking well in advance. Trying to book a ticket when you arrive at Luton will (if seats are actually available) cost you a heck of a lot, and paying excess for your bags will cost you a heck of a lot as well. Best to sort all this out well before you travel. With a 'huge luggage' even budget airlines are going to be expensive. I do hope your 32kg luggage is in two bags (and not more than two). If it is just one bag you will not be able to take it on any plane (max allowance per bag is 23kg, because of luggage handling regulations). Cheapest way would indeed be to take the long-distance bus but you can only take 2 bags of max 20kg each: nationalexpress.com/coach/ou... Megabus is no good for you as they only allow one piece of baggage, max 20kg: uk.megabus.com/luggage-allow...

I would be tempted to take a bus to Milton Keynes from where Virgin Trains runs to Glasgow. Again, cheap tickets can be obtained by booking in advance but a last minute ticket will bankrupt you. How big's the 32kg bag if it's one bag? That might be a problem getting it in and out of buses and trains but it's your problem as you move bags yourself.

Hi If you're travelling with heavy luggage, then the ideal is to fly, but last minute flights are not going to be a cheap option and so you will need to book as far in advance as possible to get a reasonable fare. If you are interested in this option, then let me offer some comments on travelling with heavy luggage on low cost carriers. I flew with easyjet from Luton to Hamburg two days ago. We chose them precisely because - unlike their low cost competitors - they DO cater for heavy luggage items which weigh in excess of 20kg. However, bear in mind that 32kg is their upper limit for a single item of luggage, and you will need to check their website to calculate the cost for a case in excess of 20kg (www.easyjet.com). One other very useful benefit that easyjet offers is the ability to combine luggage allocations, so if you were travelling with someone else who had a case which weighed 8kg, then you could combine these to give you 20kg of luggage each. This is a real advantage compared to Ryanair and many other low cost carriers that do not allow this. Obviously this is only relevant to you if you are travelling with someone else, but even if this doesn't apply to your situation, it may be relevant to others reading this posting. Good luck! Regards Cathy
