I will be arriving in Ponta Delgada on April 6, 2014 and would like to know if there are any locals that can speak English and would be willing to take my wife on a tour for a reasonable price to see the main points of interest. In addition, I would also like to be taken to a records office to look for potential relatives. All my great grandparents were born in the Azores on my mother's side. I know the Machado one came from Terceira, the Cunha (or da Cuhna) from Graciosa, but my great grandmother who married Manuel Cunha, Mary Josephine Coelho Ramos born 11 Aug 1866 might have come from Sao Miguel. I would like to look into it if possible. Any help would be appreciated for the tour and possible records office. Thank you.
There is little restaurant that looks like an old train cabin inside. Serves salads, sandwiches, ice cream and the best red sangria I've ever had. If anyone knows the name of it and share? I think it had 29 in the name of it.
Hello, have you ever seen army jets passing over on verry low altitude? I would like to visit the Serra Estrela Mountains and the coast side. Where I live in france army jets are passing on verry low altitude (beneath 350m altitude) and they have already damaged my ears two times. So I risque to become death. Any experiences in this part of Portugal?
I am planning to travel by train by Coimbra to Evora. It mentions a brief stop at Lisbon for a couple of minutes. Do we need to change trains at Lisbon or is it like another stop for people to get in and out and no change of train is involved. Thanks in advance.
Hi - we're a retired couple living in Gozo, hoping to relocate to Portugal in the Spring. Prefer old, characteristic places, not big resorts, but because of slight mobility problems, need to be able to walk to the sea and amenities. Tavira has been suggested - can anyone help with general info - rental costs for a 2 bedrm place, utilities. cost of living ? Any help would be hugely appreciated - we intend to come on a fact finding holiday but can't afford to make mistakes and choose the wrong location. Many thanks.
I live in Sweden and will travel to Elvas in august from madrid or lissabon. I'm wondering if i should book train/bus to Badajoz now on the internet (and in that case, are there some good sites that i can reserve my tickets on?)
Or is it safe to wait and buy the bus/train tickets on the place when i get to madrid/lissabon?
Has anyone recently managed to get from Elvas to Badajoz in order to connect the trains from Lisbon and onwards from Badajoz to Merida: the train from Lisbon arrives at 1248 Portuguese time and leaves from Badajoz at 1420 Spanish time - so there is only half an hour for the connection. Are there taxis at Elvas station?? Will be grateful for any information. DS 21 Feb 08
I am looking for a way to go from Lisboa to Elvas or campo maior on the 16th of August. I arrive in Lisboa at 13:00 by plane from London.
