Does anyone know whether it's safe to travel to the Sinai now, and climb Mt. Sinai? Thanks!

I think that touristy areas in Egypt are very well protected. We felt absolutely safe in Sinai, and only some people travelling to Cairo met some trouble when leaving Sinai.

I think its is always pretty safe for tourists in most of Egypt ...the media only ever portrays the bad things that happen and they are very few ...it goes without saying that all our thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to all those affected by recent events ... but having said that the media of course dont interview the 20,000+ people who travel from all over the world to Egypt every month and have a WONDERFULL holiday...

Every single hotel and complex we have been to has good security measures which they enforce quite strictly because they dont want interlopers getting freebies from thier grounds and hotels you see...the ones in Sharm and Hurghada even had armed security at the gates and doors....we have never felt unsafe at any point and frequently had 5 small children with us to consider too

If you take a tour to Mt Sinai and St catherines you will be under the protection of the tour operator and usually accompanied by a representative the whole time...and there are armed guards at the sites as well...a fact i found qute odd at the entrnace to a church but thats the way they do it...

I say GO...GO GO GO! and have a fabulous time and come back and tell us all about it

"Safe" is a relative term. Last year there were several kidnappings of foreigners in the Sinai region. All foriegners were released unharmed. Of course, there were 60-70 kidnappings a month in Mexico. So as i say, it's all relative.

I was in Egypt during the Uprise and felt so safe when I was in Mt. Sinai and Dahab..It was in Cairo then where I felt a bit concern but Mt. Sinai & Dahab, other than the usual extra care we take when travellin, you're good to go...have fun!
