Hi I'm coming to Scotland (Edinburgh)for a wedding over the May bank holiday weekend, 5 - 7 May. Can anyone tell me if the departmente stores will be open on the Monday? Thank You
hi there yes, all the stores will be open as this is one of their busiest days of the year. because people will be off work the stores will want to be open to get extra business. hope this helps

As it is an official Bank Holiday throughout the UK I would think unlikely. Here are the details for Scotland. bankholidaydates.co.uk/Scotl... Some small. family run corner shops may open. If you want to visit a particular department store you could ask one of your local contacts or email the store. Travel agents and hotels have been pushing sales and departures for this weekend because of the Holiday and clearly expecting most people to have time away from work.

As a general rule, larger shops in the UK do open on the majority of bank holidays, although their opening hours may be shorter. The best way to find out about individual department stores is to google their websites (use the store locator option if they are chains) and check opening hours there.

I looked at the Jenners (HoF) Princess St website - only normal hours given there which is why I suggested direct contact. I saw that an Edinburgh branch of Waitrose Supermarket will be open! Hope the staff get double time and time off or something!

All our local supermarkets & big shops are open on bank hols, except Easter Sunday, New Year's Day and Christmas Day. Has been thus for several years now. I don't know if they get double time though. I suspect not..time and a half, perhaps, with time off in lieu. Marks & Spencers on Princes Street is open 0900-1900 on 7th and I'd guess the same applies to the other large central stores. Hi leics and Ranger I'd like to thank you for taking the time to check out these stores and reply again. I contacted Debenhams directly as suggested and they said that they were open. I'm really glad cause we're flying back to Italy on Tuesday morning and I really wanted to bet some shopping done VT is so good for getting answers and the VTers never make me feel that my question is too trivial. I don't suppose you could fix the weather for me that weekend?
