You never know about wether today, but someone said to me that my-june is the best time to visit Edinburgh. Is that true? Not so riny then or what?
Being closer to summer it will not be as damp & rainy. But Edinburgh is generally very windly & rainy anyway :-( I've visited in June twice & it rained both times - quite heavy downpours in fact. And it was windy too - preventing a climb to Arthur's seat.. If anything, the best time to visit is around August, though no guarantees against the occasional shower!

I was in Edinburgh in the end of july last year. I had a very hot and sunny day and the skies were as blue as the flag of Scotland. I guess it varies a lot. Check the forecast before you go. Not much to do about rain. I'd worry more about other tourists. It can get really crowdy + the construction work on roads and buildings everywhere.

O.k. We were allready decided not to go anywhere at our summer holliday (at June), but I checked every place Rynair flies, and found quite cheap flights to Edinburgh from 10th to 14th of June. But maybe we should wait for another year, when we can have holliday later at summer. Too bad, i hate the idea of staying at homeland all the hollidy..

The only answer is - It is weather is unpredictable and it is impossible to forecast it accurately anywhere in northern Europe with a temperate climate influenced by Atlantic weather systems.. But - for what it is worth over the years I have visted Edinburgh to visit family in the months of January, April, June, July, August and September. The only time when it was cold and wet was January. As for April through to September you could be lucky or unlucky. We have been mainly lucky but you might hit a week of rain - or a week of sunshine. By the way in March this year Aberdeen, and other parts of east Scotland, enjoyed some of the highest March temperatures recorded in the UK.

I'm with ranger49..... also, my mother always said that anyone who is coming to Scotland for the weather is coming for the wrong reasons. Followed by the rejoinder, just dress appropriately and get on with it!! It can rain at any time of the year, just as it can be a wonderful sunny day at any time. It can also do both in the one day! May/June, being exam time, is usually the catalyst for some super weather!!

Agree with Hawkhead. May/June/July is the best chance you'll have of good weather. May & June more than July, recently. August is usually the worst of the summer months; it's starting to get darker, plus the city is overfilled with tourists because of the festivals. The others are right to comment on the general unpredictability of our weather, of course.

Here's the climate stats for Edinburgh (scroll down): http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2650225 May and June (on average) do have less rain than July and August....on average. But climate averages are only averages and, in the UK, they mean even less than they do elsewhere. No guarantees whatsoever. Hawkhead's mother was right! :-)

Trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local on the day variations. This information should be used as a guide only. Here is the average weather for Great Britain for this time of year. Enjoy your holiday. January/February/March/April/May/June July/August/September/October/November/December. SUN. Possible but not likely. HUMIDITY. Usually follows the sun, and then:- ELECTRICAL STORMS. Followed by:- RAIN. We excel in rain. PRECIPITATION. NO! it’s called bloody RAIN. OVERCAST. Most defiantly. COLD. O yes. FROST. Comes just when you put in your bedding plants and kills them all off. SNOW. You never know. BLIZZARDS. Only when it snows. SLEET. Rain with icy bits in it. HAILSTONES. Anytime, anywhere. FOG. Not always on the Tyne. GALES. Strike just after the weather man says there is nothing to worry about. FLOODING. Only if you are daft enough to live near a river. RAINING CATS AND DOGS. No but we have had fish and frogs. SPRING. Anytime between January and December, a good indication is when all the housewives do their “spring clean” SUMMER. Anytime between January and December. Please send us a postcard when you think this will happen we have not a clue. AUTUMN. Anytime between January and December. All the leaves have left the trees, sorry, I forgot, the acid rain did all that. WINTER. Anytime between January and December. I think you are getting the idea.

I think I have never gone anywhere because of the weather. But since we do allways have the worst luck in weather, I already started to think we might skip this and leave it later. I do live in Finland, so I know you can´t say anything sure about the weather. But even in here, I can say that best months are july and august (if you ask me, for me the warmer the better!). We went to Napoli a month ago, and it was coldest spring for 20 years (said our landlord). Now we need to keep out summer holliday at june, when I think that it´s never warm enough then. We should just stay in Finland, but we haven´t stayed here whole summer for 10 years or something. I have promlems doing that now.. For some reason, all the towns Ryanaiar flies in Spain from Tampere are so expensive, that it would be cheaper to drive to Helsinki and use some "normal" airplane.. Maybe I´ll check Italian towns once again.. But we jsut went to Italy.
