Timorese culture is strongly influenced by the portuguese and the catholic religion that they superficially confess to. They remain asian people, though, with humble attitudes and plenty of indonesian gestures... The nation building period they are going through brings about numerous changes, so their habits may evolve quite a lot in the coming years. It is unfortunately almost 3 years since I returned from Timor so I cannot give you details about the current state of affairs. Do visit Timor L. if you are given a chance! All the best! Yiannis
