We are arriving by cruise ship and need to know if there is any transportation available from Port Chalmers to Dunedin. The cruise ship excursions are ridiculously expensive.

The cruise ship will most likely have shuttle buses running to and from Dunedin for the passengers

When I was in Dunedin they were running the Taieri Gorge train to the cruise ships. I guess that is one of the expensive organised excursions though. Some of the passengers got off in the city and others went on to do the Gorge trip.
