Interesting places during drive to mostar

by monicarc Online Now Feb 9, 2013 at 6:22 AM

We are going to have a driver for a full day for a day trip to mostar--wanted to see if there were any interesting sights along the way we should look at--we are also going to medjugore. Nothing very time consuming or out of the way, but something easily accessible.

Mali Ston - farms growing superb tender and tasty oysters and black mussels, lovely village with two excellent seafood restaurants, an interesting walk to a huge abandoned fortress and a wall.

Jen, can you remember the name of that abandoned village with art collony where I took a picture of you drinking Bosnian coffee?

We visited three places between Dubrovnik and Mostar that were all excellent. First is ancient town on a hill named Pocitelj with climbable castle tower, great views, wonderful old buildings and twisting lanes.

Second was Kravice Falls. Only 20 or so minutes west of Pocitellj. Could easily be worked in with the Medugorje leg you mentioned.

Blagaj is only about 15 minutes southeast of Mostar and is definitely worth a stop. Beautiful historic Muslim educational center at the bottom of a high cliff from where a beautiful blue-green river emerges from a deep cave (that you can take a small boat into). We stumbled down an amazing stone pathway and staircase on the right when approaching the site and were treated to an incredible tour of a local home that had been on the site and in the same family for over 600 years. Very informative, cost a dollar, and was charmingly led by a young 14-year-old member of the family.
