Day trip to lopud

by monicarc Online Now Jan 24, 2013 at 10:18 AM

Thinking about going to lopud from Dubrovnik for the day on a Friday in April, looks like the ferry leaves at 10 am and leaves later at 6pm. Just wondering what there is to do besides the beach--we would be there with our two little ones, so 7 hours at the beach is too long.

Not sure how old your children are but if you feel a whole day on the beach you might like to consider the very short boat trip that leaves the old town harbour every half hour and arrives in less than 10 minutes at the tiny island of Lokrum. The journey, although short, gives you great views of the city walls as you pull away from the harbour, there are good beaches, a cafe in the old Benedictine monastery and another close to the harbour. But it is a lovely place for a picnic - either on the beach or in "inland" where there are lovely walks in the lush woods.
It's a bit of a climb but at the top of the hill there are fantastic views.
And the great thing is that if your children get tired the return boat leaves every half hour so you can stay as long as or as short a time as suits you.

About the beaches - we made our was down a rocky incline not noticing certain signs. We understood what they were telling us when we reached the beach - some beaches are naturist beaches and this one certainly was!

If Lopud is too beach-y for you why dont you guys go to Mljet? is very close to Dubrovnik, lots to see and do with little ones and not too touristy. You can also hit the beach but have something else to do too. Mljet as Dubrovnik was under the Dodge of Venice and is have been independent republic in the past. Mljetacka republika.

Lopud is certainly a beautiful island. It is one of the Elaphiti group of islands and is stuated betweeen Koločep, and ┼áipan. Tours to all three islands are offered as a full, long day out, often including a beach picnic and time for swimming .

That should read "between the islands of Kolocep and Sipan" - but this time I have omitted the accents because they appear here as gibberish:)
