    • Alesund or Bergen???

      Norway Aug 6, 2015 at 9:33 PM

Hello, I definitey need help! We will be visiting Norway for 2 weeks at the end of september. We are planning 1 week in Lofoten and 1 week in the fjords. We are going in norway for hiking and outdoors activities, we will rent a car and would like to have max 2-3 different hotels for 1 week. Around which city will we have the more activities to do at the end of september, Alesund or Bergen? Will the leaves still be in the trees at that time of year? Are we better to go in Lofoten first? Is 1 week in Lofoten too much? Thank you for your help!!!

i need help with my 15days itinerary from Tromso to Lofoten pls..

      Norway Aug 24, 2015 at 9:06 PM

      Hi everyone!
My husband and I plan to visit Norway in the month of November (6th -20th)with our 6 year old daughter. We intend to fly to Tromso, rent a car after staying a day in the city, drive to lofoten islands and drive back to Tromso to catch our flight back to Amsterdam.

      My questions are..
1.Are there any beautiful towns between Tromso and the islands that we can stop at because we dont really want to drive ard 6/7 hrs straight.thought staying a day somewhere in between..

      2. Read in reviews that there is an option to take a ferry to the lofoten islands. Is it possible to get to most of the islands (all the way to Å) on road only?We want to try to be on the road always and not have to get onto a ferry.

3.Will there be any toll on the road that we are required to pay along the way?

4.Is there anywhere else beautiful anyone can reccommend us on where to head?We ve gt 2 weeks and the only thing we have now is to explore the Lofoten Islands. Will 2 weeks in the islands be enough?

      5. Any place to recommend on where to stay in lofoten? For now we have Å,Henningsvaer,Reine in our places- to- stay list.

      6. What is the weather usually like in november? We have driven in Iceland before.Silly ques but Will the weather be as unpredictable and constantly changing like those of Iceland's ?Or is it different?

Heres thanking everyone in advance for helping us out..Your help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you Dabs for your detail transportation information from Olden Cruise terminal to Briksdal. Taking the public bus is so cheap and seems easy. Five of us are thinking of doing the same but are concern about the availability. Is there only one bus at each departure time?
We will be on Princess Caribbean deaprting Southampton on August 29 and docking at Stavanger, Olden, Hellesylt, Geiranger and Bergen. In Geiranger, the bus tours to MOUNT DALSNIBBA & FLYDALS GORGE are fully booked. Does anyone have alternate economical suggestions? We appreciate any tips shared.

8 Day Tour Fjors of Norway - Mail Travel London

      Norway Aug 13, 2015 at 1:23 AM

I subscribe to Mail Travel, but live in Australia. Would appreciate comments of this 8 day tour incl return flights from London, Tour conducted by Newmarket Holidays.

      Day 1

Fly to Bergen, meet your tour manager and transfer by coach through the spectacular scenery to the idyllic village of Balestrand. Settle in to your room, and acquaint yourself with the beautiful surroundings, before enjoying your first dinner in the hotel.

      Day 2

Today, get to know Balestrand. Since the late 19th Century, Sognefjord has welcomed visitors searching for clear mountain air and enchanting scenery, and whenever you go, the area's natural beauty will enchant you, as will the warmth of the welcome virtually everywhere you go.

      Day 3

Your first included excursion is an unforgettable day trip by boat to the historic trading port of Bergen. Join us to discover a city of cobbled streets and medieval houses with a colourful harbour and open-air fish market. Stroll past the wooden warehouses of Bryggen and take the Floibanen funicular up 'Mount' Floyen.

      Day 4

The Jostedal Glacier, mainland Europe's largest ice-flow, is a mesmerising sight that dominates the northern landscape beyond the fjords. Our optional visit here is a great opportunity to see the glacier itself and to explore the informative Norwegian Glacier Museum.

      Day 5

Our optional Norway in a Nutshell excursion is an unmissable tour of one of the world's most scenic regions. The day includes a ride on the world-famous Flamsbana line from Myrdal to Flam, a remarkable 20km descent down the steep-sided valley, and a spectacular two-hour cruise through Aurlandsfjord and Naeroyfjord to the tiny port of Gudvangen.

      Day 6

Spend today's optional excursion exploring beautiful Sognefjord and the fascinating Sogn Folk Museum at Kaupanger, with its fine collection of fishing and 'ice' boats that reflect Norway's age-old interaction with the sea and the fjords.

      Day 7

Spend your final day in Balestrand relaxing as you make the very most of the village and its surroundings. This evening, enjoy a final dinner in the hotel at the end of an unforgettable week in one of the world's most beautiful corners.

      Day 8

Transfer back to Bergen airport, and check in for your flight home.

      What's Included
•Seven nights' four-star half-board accommodation at the Kvikne's Hotel in Balestrand, on Sognefjord
      •Return flights to Bergen
•Comfortable, air-conditioned coach travel and transfers
•Fully escorted by a friendly, experienced tour manager

Cost: Approx 850 English Pounds, cheaper earlier months ,

Note no mention of the Cost of optional tours, which I think are essential to enjoy the holiday.

Anyone had experience with these coys.

      Appreciate all advice and comments

      Mike

    • Safe to wait in Drammen Bamgelokka?

by Kerstinche Online Now Sep 16, 2008 at 10:10 PM

      Hello everyone,

I´m planning to go to Geilo in Norway on Friday, leaving from Oslo Torp (with Raynair). Therefore I need to take a bus either from Drammen or from Oslo. Since Oslo might be a little tight (five minutes between ariival with torpexpressen and departure of the bus to Geilo) I was thinking to change busses in Drammen. Unfortunetly I have to wait in Drammen form 5.45p.m. to 7.15pm and since I´m a girl I´m kind of scared. Is there a restaurant somewhere close by or are my worries without reason?

      Thanks in advance

    • How to get from Drammen Train Station to Bangeløkka Drammen for Torp Bus

by Sherrys Online Now Dec 30, 2007 at 1:35 PM

      Hi Folks,

I plan to arrive in Drammen Train station from Finse at 16:55 on Sunday. I hope to catch the TorpExpressen Bus from Oslo on its way to Torp in time for the Ryanair 20:25 flight.

Does anyone know if I can walk to Bangeløkka or can I easliy get a bus or taxi from Drammen train station at this time on Sunday? I reckon the most time I would have is 30-45 minutes. Also if a taxi is required what should I expect to pay?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    • Where does the TorpExpressen stop in Drammen?

by Kerso1 Online Now Oct 10, 2007 at 3:36 AM

      Hi everyone
My husband lives across in Tranby and when I go to visit him, I usually get on the Torp Expressen and get off at Drammen at the Shell Garage on Kjellstad. Going home, I get on at the Statoil Garage on Kjellstad.

However, I have noticed that the Torp Expressen bus stop has changed for this service.. Seems to be at a place called Bangelokka (sorry about the spelling - my keyboard cannot type the letter properly)

Can anyone tell me where this stop is, so that I can get my husband to pick me up at the right place.. He doesn't know where it is and when I do an internet search, it brings nothing up (probably because i'm not typing the work correctly).

      Many thanks

    • Bus service from Torp to Drammen

by Kerso1 Online Now Mar 27, 2007 at 4:50 AM

Thanks very much for everyone's help. Particularly Sorhus.. Just so that you know, my fiance has now moved into a flat in Tranby and is liking life in Norway.

I'm going out to visit on 6th April (Good Friday) and returning on Monday 9th April (Easter Monday).

Does anyone know if the buses will be running on these days. I believe that both Friday and Monday are national holidays.

I was planning to get a bus from Torp to Drammen and then my fiance will meet me there. As far as getting back to the airport, I can get a bus or taxi from Tranby to Drammen, but I need to know if I can get a bus from Drammen to Torp airport, to get me home for a 15:20 flight back to Scotland. I'll need to be at the airport for about 1:20pm

Can anyone give me any information??

    • Flats for rent

by Kerso1 Online Now Feb 26, 2007 at 6:24 AM

      Hi there

I have already posted a thread on the Oslo page to get information about accommodation in Drammen or nearby. My fellow V.T ers have been very helpful, so thank you.

Moving on from this, I wondered if anyone could give me any information about who to contact to rent a flat in Drammen/Asker/Lier, along with an indication of how much the rent would be on a 1 bedroom flat. My fiance is due to move across to start work in Tranby on 18th March and needs something as soon as possible, not too far from Tranby.

Maybe a 1 bedroom flat or a guest house initially, until he can find something to rent. This would likely be a long term let, for at least 1 year.

I do not know where to start looking and cannot find anything on the internet in English.

Can anyone out there help me?

      Thanks

Hi all I have just returned from three weeks in Drammen, and wow! I love the place. OK it's possibly not thought as the most beautiful place in Norway but when you walk up through the mist to the top of the hills it equalls anywhere else I have ever seen. The people are amazing, the most helpful friendly kind group I have met. I was quite upset when I had to come home, but in only two weeks I will be back in Norway to start my new life. Thanks to everyone that replied to my first post.
